Thinking of moving to the area so, in the name of research, spent the day checking out the local pubs. This is a gem. Situated in a quiet side street, it’s much bigger than it looks from the outside. There’s a dining room towards the back of the bar area and, beyond that, is a fabulous, long garden. There was a good selection of real ales available, 3 – 4 I think(although by the time I arrived here I had«researched» so much my memory was beginning to fail). I do remember, though, friendly staff and locals(grown ups and very well behaved kids), and spending the best part of the afternoon sitting in the peaceful, sunny garden. Well recommended.

There is an Inn called The Rising Sun where a weary old traveller wandered in and was greeted by another to make the visit worth while. I understood that this place is no longer«tied» but now owned by someone, with a management team. All I can say it is now a very friendly place.

There is an house in Old Epsom they call The Rising Sun, its been the passing place for this old guy since time began. The change from Owned public house to managed so I‘m told has proceeded seamlessly that when I ventured in to be greeted by a «punter» as he called himself, it made for a friendly gesture, I had not considered, as a quick one had been envisaged.

Yes I agree with the enthusiasm of the earlier reviewer. It’s a great little back street country pub, welcoming to dogs and with that great long garden out the back which is lovely in summer. I would drive quite a way to get to it and when I lived in Epsom for a bit I made it my local.

+ hidden gem of Epsom + great food + beer garden for the sunny days — if you don’t know about it, you won’t find it! The Rising Sun is a pub nestled amongst the row of houses just on the edge of Epsom town centre. The first time I was there I followed the recommendation and succinct directions from another pub owner when I was in search of a pub lunch. Despite it’s slightly out of the way location in and amongst residential houses and its recessed, unassuming entrance, the pub is bigger on the inside, extending some way back with a friendly-sized garden for the rare sunny days. The pub offers a variety of ales and cider, but what impressed me most was the selection and quality of their food. On the most recent visit on a Saturday afternoon, I had the grilled red gurnard served in a grapefruit sauce, accompanied by a salad of spinach, lamb’s lettuce, grilled courgettes, capers, and a gorgeous vinaigrette. My partner had the guinea fowl with a walnut stuffing served on a bed of mustard mash. The ingredients were fresh and presentation appetising, rivalling a mid-priced restaurant in quality and presentation but with a pub-friendly price tag. I highly recommend dropping by for a pint or a meal, especially on a sunny day to enjoy the use of their beer garden.

The heart and soul of this formerly wonderful bar has been well and truly ripped out! No atmosphere, cold clinical appearance, how this was discribed as cosy beats the life out of me!!!

This is a hidden gem a 5 minute walk from the centre of Epsom. Wonderfully decorated, cosy and warm, the resturant is so nice, you want to be in there all night. I love the place mats, made of stone! Check out the fire as well! The food is great, with an extensive menu with add on specials all the time. All the food and ingredients are made in the kitchen by some dedicated chefs, even the chips are cut in the kitchen, I am told the only thing they don’t make back there is the mayonnaise because of some food safety law! Serving real ale and european beer on draught such as Erdinger and staropramen, it makes for a good place to drink too, especially in the very large beer garden out the back. There is a functions room upstairs which is great for watching sport. They also have a poka night which is popular with the locals.

Just off the beaten track, the Rising Sun truely is a hidden gem. Reccomended to me by 3 people who live local until I made it down there, met a lovely girl in the beer garden who studies at the nearby fashion college and became friends and the Rising Sun became a distant but much loved venue to visit. Fantastic garden, brilliant beer range, gorgeous clientel and amazing food if I lived closer I would visit at least once a week. May I suggest if you have to meet someone in Epsom that you take them to this place? You will both be impressed!
