I am pleased to hear that this shop is to re-open nearby but I have some advice for the owners. I am part of the younger generation — a professional woman in her late twenties who enjoys sewing and spends a fair bit of money on this hobby. I have visited your shop twice in the last three years. The first time, it was SO old-fashioned, there was literally nothing I wanted to buy — which is very unusual for me in this kind of place! It was like stepping into my grandma’s house. The second time, I desperately needed a sewing machine needle to finish a project. Your shop was closed, with a sign in the window saying ‘closed due to unforeseen circumstances’ or something similar. This was on a normal working day and I had travelled for over an hour on public transport to get to you. Without a website, there was no way for me to know that you were closed. This review is written with the best of intentions and I hope you will listen. You must evolve and adapt if you are to survive. People of my age are the future. You should get a presence online — even if it’s just a very simple website or a Twitter account so you can communicate — and update your offerings to appeal to a wider age range. I really do wish you all the best in your new location.

Did visit them. The 1 Star is for the agents who are forcing this very popular shop to relocate. Fortunately they have found an empty shop in South Street. It will not be called Lisa but another name, which will be revealed in June, when they will also have a web site.!!

I really like this shop it is very old school and brilliant for buying all things haberdashery including odds and ends. My only negative would be that I felt the staff were a little offy and slightly patronising when I asked for some assistance.

I’m going middle of line a giving two stars — shame it had one bad review. It puts new ppl off, but I will visit that shop and hopefully update my review. So unfair.

I am not by any means an hands skilled person, D.I.Y guy, Gardener or have any knowledge of Plumbing, Gas, Electric, or any other practical appliance. I learnt the little skill I posses at N. E .S.C.O.T College when BBC Basic was around on Computers. And still stumble around on the Internet. So it is humbling to find someone or a shop the still helps with the small items such as Curtain Hooks. I bought some for only £1, a small bag, of oops, I forgot to count, but enough to replace those that have disappeared into oblivion! Long live Lisa’s!

I’ve been using this place for years and it most often has what I need. The staff are always very helpful. First stop for all sewing needs!

I love it when friends broaden my horizons. When a friend recently requested some wool for a project, I was directed to Lisa’s Haberdashery. I had walked past this place many times over the years but never been in. Well, if you’re into making clothes, this is a little treasure trove. Fortunately, one of the shop assistants saw me looking lost in amongst all the material, buttons, knitting accessories etc, and came to my rescue — what’s the female equivalent of a knight in shining armour? I was soon on my way with the required wool but I can see little dressmakers getting lost and inspired by all the pretty things on display here.
