In a country awash with multiple Italian chains serving generic pizza and pasta, it’s surprising the not many have copied Café Rouge’s successful formula. For a chain, Café Rouge does offer a reliable French brasserie dining experience. They open at breakfast and serve meals all the way into the evening. I’ve never had breakfast here but friends tell me that the food is good and is a good spot for Sunday brunch. I have tried a few of their evening dishes and dishes ranging from moules mariniere to lamb shank have been tasty and well-cooked. not as good as good independent restaurants but nice for a chain. It’s also nice to have traditional drinks like citron presse. Worth a visit if you’re fed up of Italian food and want something different.

Café Rouge in Epsom is part of a chain of restaurants– a fact that would usually distress me. However the quality of food on offer makes up for the lack of individual personality the restaurant has. I had the chicken liver parfait followed by the steak. The parfait was just wonderful and is highly recommended and their steaks are good and cooked perfectly. In addition to this Café Roude does breakfasts which I can’t comment on and does a good range of beers and ciders all of which are worth trying. The alsace beer in particular is very tasty, though not cheap. All in all a better thn average chain restaurant experience for those wishing to sample the best of French food in a reasonable cheap and accessible manner
