We arrived late Sunday night expecting to get a table easily. It was a bit further away from where we were staying in Central Edinburgh, but not far from Edinburgh Haymarket station, and a 20 minutes ride from our hotel, door to door on the bus. Also a minute from the Fountain Park Entertainment Centre. The restaurant is small, eight small tables(each seats 2 people) crammed into the front and a couple of even smaller tables in the back, but surprisingly not cramped, just cosy. The clientele seems to be all Portuguese and locals. There was a match on the TV, Portugal v Serbia, and as Portugal was winning, the atmosphere was quite excited, and fun-filled. As we had not booked, they agreed to let us have a table for an hour, we did not mind, as we were hungry and just wanted to eat, and if they could serve us that quick! We did not realise it was a BYO restaurant, so they said we could either get a bottle from next door or they could give us a small glass each from the staff’s drinks, as they do not have a licence to serve drinks yet, they were in the process of getting one, and it was not available until the end of April. We chose the latter, to save time and to avoid going out into the chilly street! The wine came in cute little terraccota cups, and they only charged as corkage, £2 per person. Some of the items on the menu you have to pre-order or takes half an hour to make. Would have liked to try other items, but only being allowed an hour for our table, so we went for the fishcakes for starters, and the egg on a steak with fries, rice and salad. Went down well with the glass of red wine. The steak was a little too salty for me, like most mediterranean cooking, I found, seems to have a lot of salt, otherwise a very nice meal in a homely and friendly environment.

Having been there another two times, I need to admit that they guys have really expanded the menu, they have some epic dishes there and the whole experience was great! Definitely recommended!

Dinner here last night as part of a party of 11 was a really fun experience & the place is definitely worth your time and money if you’re a fan of meat. Having seating for only 25 or so overall there’s an immediate intimacy between all the diners and the waiting staff, thereby quickly making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. The portion sizes are excellent(a starter may not be the best idea unless you’ve got a really large appetite) and the service consistently good-humoured and attentive. Given the size of the steaks and the various skewered meat dishes it can take a bit of time between ordering and serving but at no time do you feel that this is due to anything other than the need to prepare each dish fresh. There’s clearly good reason then for the need to order some group dishes 24 hours in advance. A very welcome expansion of the dining scene in Edinburgh.
