Right, this title is totally misleading. It should be ‘Some of the fest’, or ‘Not the best, but a few decent acts from the fest’. But that doesn’t rhyme, and, if Aristotle taught us anything, it’s that rhyming gets you far in life. I was quite excited when I saw this — one of my favourite comedians(Sam Simmons) was on the bill — and he didn’t disappoint — his Christmas songs to the Star Wars theme was particularly inspired. A couple of half decent acts sandwiched him and the compère did a great job. But then it finished with Jack Whitehall. He isn’t funny. No really, he isn’t. He didn’t say anything that made me laugh one. And it upsets me how successful he’s become. So my tip for best of the fest — check the line-up before you blindly buy a ticket.

Calling all jokers, fools, drunks, amateur comedians and laugh-a-holics! As the name implies, Best of The Fest is a showcase that features a pick & mix of the best comedians and stand up performers taking part in the annual Edinburgh Festival and Festival Fringe. The line-up changes every night with new and emerging comedians sharing the stage with some of the biggest U.K. names. Brilliantly, each BOTF kicks off at midnight and usually finishes around 1.30am so you can expect a bustling atmosphere and happy if slightly inebriated audience. The late time also guarantees punters — and guests! — getting to the venue on time after other shows. Best of The Fest 2010 runs 6 — 29 August 2010 and I’d strongly recommend booking in advance as tickets usually fly out.
