Turkish Doner Inn

The fact that the Turkish Doner Inn stays open till the wee hours of the morning is by far my favourite aspect of it! It is a great place to stop by on your way back from a night out for a cheeky kebab or pizza.
Situated in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh, the Turkish Doner Inn is just a short walk from the city centre and so is a convenient place to reach, especially if you are on your way back from a night out and feeling peckish. I first came here for proper Turkish food (I was really in the mood for some hummus) but I was pretty disappointed as it seems that the Turkish Donner Inn is a pretty standard takeaway.
This place really specialises in kebabs and my friend absolutely loved the lamb shish kebab. I frequently come here for their pizzas which are really tasty with a lovely base and they don’t skimp on the cheese and toppings either — such a bonus! I have come here chips once or twice on my way home from a night out and from what I can remember they were delightful!
The prices are really reasonable and the food is tasty so you can’t go far wrong with going to the Turkish Doner Inn for a meal.

I think taking the photo today was the first time I’d ever seen the place in the daytime. Or for that matter, sober. I mean, it’s a takeaway in Edinburgh. That pretty much translates to: they make pizzas for drunks. Or kebabs, of course.
Last time I went there, it must have been around 2 – 3 in the morning and I was going to a friend’s who lived around the corner. Gentleman that he was (at that time), and the only one with a job, he bought us pizza and offered us wine. I remember the pizza being absolutely delicious. But I’d been dancing for hours and high on Balkan beats so who knows, maybe that’s the perfect formula.
As far as takeaways go, it’s fairly standard. They have pizza, chips and kebabs. Their pizza toppings are also pretty standard. Veggie pizza is with peppers and mushrooms. Meaty pizzas are with some kind of meat. I’m guessing pepperoni and the sort. Good if you need to sober up, no doubt.
