Thirty Seven Bar

I am writing a big negative for a thing that I never expected from Edinburgh. I and my friend entered the bar and took a seat. We made ourselves comfortable and after a little chit chat (5mins or so) I asked her to go and order something from the bar. We went to the counter and she asked for a coffee wile I was still deciding between a hot or a cold drink; but i did not had to do that decision…
The barman (woman) looked at my friend and asked her for a proof that she was 18yrs. At first I thought it was a joke, (I would said flirting if the barman was a man), but she was serious! The incredible is that my friend was a 27year old student, and although she looks young, she definitely looks at least 5 years over the gone teenage life. She was wearing very casual and educated looking.
I intervened and argued a bit with the barlady, party expecting that it was a joke, and partly lingering maybe another personnel would have better common sense, but was in vain and we had to leave.
If they can go wrong by 60% in age estimation, I would not trust the precision in their service. Probably they prefer dead old men as the reviewer above experienced.

I can honestly say that this is one of the most average pubs on Rose Street, and one of the most average I have ever been in.
It was a summers day, around 2pm, and the place was absolutely dead. Save for one old man who was withering away in the corner, the place was devoid of any atmosphere, and I still waited about 10 minutes to be noticed at the bar, which was dirty and beer stained, clearly from the night before. I had decided to leave before I was served and made an excuse to the incredibly lackadaisical barman before shooting off out the door. My other two friends hadn’t even arrived yet but we went elsewhere instead.
Maybe I arrived on a bad day, when business was slow, but this pub was dire.
