With a wonderfully old-fashioned sounding name, in a time when trade involved craftmanship(and skill) and businesses were known for what they did, such as making rings, The Ring Maker still retains the old-fashioned notion that luxury items can be made bespoke, tailored, and to an exceptional quality. Whilst the glittering windows on Princes’ Street of the bigger brand jewellers may attract any passing magpies, the Ring Maker is off the beaten path, doesn’t display jewellery in the window, but it does make beautiful rings, with some pre-made examples, as a bespoke service. The vast majority are engagement, wedding, and eternity rings. Ohhh they were pretty, so very pretty.(I am admiring them from a purely aesthetic point of view, please let’s not start rumours!) Gold, white gold, platinum, diamonds, and with the option of taking precious stones and cutting them into any shape or size you want. Each ring entirely unique and different. They offer a design service, which is free, and will sit with you for half an hour to discuss the design, sketch it out in front of you, until you have the model of the ring you want. They also have a few cabinets of pre-made silver jewellery(mostly rings, one or two necklaces) which were on 50% off during January. This is, in fact, the reason I came(silver — gotta start somewhere. I’m working my way up the metal food chain!) The boy wanted a ring, and he came away with one. One-of-a-kind, designed in-house, and also being resized. We’ve yet to see the finished product so I’ll update my review when we do. Perhaps it is just the romantic /historicist in me that liked the Ring Maker so much, heralding back to a time before mass-production and products that lacked soul. Even if you couldn’t give a flying-flip about that, I’m sure you would still admire the jewellery here. If you’re in need of gorgeous, bespoke rings, try The Ring Maker.
