The Hide is directly associated with the Argyle Bar. One of its entrances is in the Argyle, and if you look it up on the List, it will be listed as «(downstairs from the Argyle Bar), [insert here the rest of the address].» It’s kind of bizarre, because it’s kind of Marchmont’s version of a club. But not really. It looks nothing like the Argyle, with its old-man-wooden-pub interior, and seems to be mostly filled with medics. By medics I mean student of Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. I don’t know what this phenomenon is all about, but there you go. During the festival, as with every space in Edinburgh, the Hide becomes a festival venue. I’ve seen some atrocious stand-up comedy there, but I also had the once in a lifetime opportunity to see the one-VERY-OLD-woman-musical-comedy show, where this old lady started stripping for us. It was fairly distressing, but again, once in a lifetime.
