Disclaimer: Those that know me will probably agree that hair isn’t really a strong point of mine, therefore this review should be taken as that of a hair novice. That said, this place ticks all the boxes for me: — It’s handy. Close to the centre, but you can also get onstreet parking nearby. — Cheapish. At £9 it’s not the cheapest, but certainly worth it. — Friendly(yet not overly friendly) barbers — The two barbers here are always more than polite and friendly, but manage to avoid the awkward forced small talk you get in a lot of places. — ‘Extras’ — I’m used to just a plain haircut, so got a bit of a shock my first time here. As standard they finish your neck with a cutthroat, and ‘flash’ your ears with a flame. Maybe it’s just because I’m a simple country boy, but this is still a bit of a novelty for me! The only downside is that you can often have a bit of a wait at busy times. There’s sometimes only one person working and they take their time(which should be considered a good thing). All in all, I definitely recommend the place.

The day before I got married I went to this barber shop in Bread Street –just next door to Starbucks on Lothian Road– to have a hot shave. A collegue of mine suggested having a hot shave they use an open razor! I was a bit scared having someone close to my throat with an open blade, but the owner was great, very skilful and I looked great on my wedding day. Just a shame I cannot afford it every day!
