If you need paper, pencil, pens, packaging take, binders, arts and craft materials, or stationary, this place has it! It’s the go to place for any thing of the sort. This Ryman is located in St. James Centre so it’s convenient to pop in here during your shopping spree. The store is compact but manages to carry a lot of things you may need to stay organised. The things they sell can be a bit pricey, but watch for offers. If you’re a student you get 10% off so make sure you always carry your card. One of the things I like about this place are the staff members. While this place doesn’t differ much from other Ryman’s, the people wwork here are nice and helpful. This location also is a pick up spot for packages delivered by UPS. There were a couple of times that I couldn’t be home so I requested my package to be delivered here instead.

This was the first Ryman’s I started going to in Edinburgh when school started in September. This location is inside of St. James Centre and it is easy to find once you are in there. The store itself is quite cozy, making it a tad awkward when strolling up and down the aisles, because you are also trying not to bump into people. It kind of made shopping here a little less fun for me as I was just trying to get in and out without bumping into people all over. Anyway, the staff seemed nice overall. They did have someone stocking shelves when I was there(during a busy afternoon) and it seemed a little unnecessary that he was on the aisle stocking something that wasn’t very empty, causing all of us to detour to the other aisle(which also was where the queue was). The cashier was pretty fast though, he offered to bag up my items and did so in an organised way. The prices are on par with other Ryman locations and their products are the same as well. I am far more likely to go to the other location on Nicolson Street before coming here. But if I was in St. James Centre and needed something, I would stop in again.

*stands* My name is Cressida, and I am a stationery-aholic. I don’t know when the problem started. I think it might have been when I was given some personalised crayons in a Winnie-the-Pooh pencil case on my parents’ anniversary when I was four.(I still have the pencil case, y’all.) All I know is that it’s a deep, dark, undeniable part of me. Pens. All the pens. Gel pens, fineliners, permanent markers, dry-wipes, biros, cartridge pens, fountain pens — heck, I even stuck a calligraphy nib in a feather I found once. And pencils. Notebooks. Diaries. As I’ve grown, it’s even extended to office furniture and desk layouts. And not always the«pretty stationery» type. I like the really functional stuff too. Anyway, this is going somewhere. Where this is going is that I really like Ryman. This branch, in particular, is something of a joy. The staff are a delight and I’m pretty sure that’s not just because they now recognise me. And once, when I went in just before closing, I heard one of the girls working there say to a colleague, «It’s that time of day when the wanderers come in.» «I’m a wanderer,» I answered. «But I’m wandering in search of clipboards. Have you any???» She pointed me to the correct shelf immediately, and I think perhaps some bats down in Leith might have heard me when I spotted the teeniest, tiniest clipboard of all time. I snatched it up and, hugging it close to my chest, trotted gleefully to the counter, where the gentleman service was the same one as usual. «Hullo,» he said. «Just that for you, today?» «YOUSHOULDHAVEHEARDTHENOISESHEMADEWHENSHESAWIT!» called the girl from the other end of the shop. It’s that kind of place, you know?
