Absolutely amazing, food was cooked to perfection, very well presented, and cheap too, would of paid twice the price and been happy, would come again if I did not live 6 hours away.

Being owned & refurbed by a Masterchef contestant I was expecting good things & had been on the ‘to-try’ list since it’s opening last year but sadly last night’s meal was a bit of a disappointment. There was a typical gastro-pub menu on offer but I struggled to find anything that grabbed me so plumped for a ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce and chips, my partner fis & chips and a cheesy garlic bread starter to accompany our mains. The restaurant itself is a very tartan affair with some interesting décor and artwork. It was quiet on a Friday evening but the waitresses were friendly and the food was quick to arrive. Unfortunately my steak wasn’t great, there wasn’t a mouthful that wasn’t full of fat or gristle, I appreciate that it’s not an ideal cut to have cooked rare but still. The fish & chips were ok but not great. I mentioned this to the waitress and she spoke to her manager & they did knock a glass of wine off the bill and only charge me half price for the steak, which was very good of them but it didn’t inspire us to stay on and have dessert. There was a really lovely Argentinian Malbec which I’d recommend if anyone goes there called Paso Doble but other than that we left distinctly underwhelmed and disappointed, such a shame as had been absolutely starving when we arrived. Little things like all the cutlery for starters(that we didn’t have) and a knife surplus to a steak eaters requirements were left on the table throughout our meal & on requesting tomato sauce to go with the fish & chips, an almost empty plastic squeezy Heinz ketchup bottle being brought out all jarred with the level this restaurant is being pitched at and the host of little pots & dishes that the salad, sauce, chips etc were all served in On this experience there was little for us to go back for although their xmas menu did look quite appealing and was nicely done in the old style using the old Scottish word for turkey, which always makes me smile — ‘bubblyjock’
