This is a bookshop for those with a thirst for knowledge and feels a bit like an old library bar the fact that you buy the books rather than renting them. On offer you have classics, literature including some of the classic examples of literature and a few analyses of a variety of these classic items of literature on offer. The rest is devoted largely to philosophy, Scottish literature and a variety of knowledge books including a few historical items. It’s not your typical quick book to read before bed bookshop, but for those with a greater thirst for knowledge it might be right up your street.

This isn’t the first shop I’ll go to in West Port. Mainly because it’s so very clean. Much cleaner than any of the other second hand bookshops in that area. That isn’t necessarily a good thing, though. Not for me, anyway. I mean, the books definitely look used and loved. Very much loved. But it’s not the kind of place that feels like you’ll just randomly stumble upon a treasure. And I like that feeling. The feeling of just launching into an unknown, messy room to maybe or maybe not find something precious. The gems hidden amongst the rubbish kind of feeling. But, it’s a West Port bookshop, and West Port bookshops are all pretty much awesome. Of a higher calibre than most bookshops in Edinburgh. So, kudos to Peter Bell Books.
