Had shawarma and baklava. Both fantastic and very reasonable pricing. The baklava, for example, is only 70p each. The staff were polite and attentive, but never overbearing. Perhaps the seating is a little on the hard side, but I can’t mark down for that really.

My review is based solely on their hummus and falafel wrap. It is my go to comfort food when I crave a bit of a treat for lunch. The wrap is very tasty and I would say I am guilty of going almost weekly to get one. At £3.50, it is a steal and the service is always fast and friendly. I get the small, which is enough for me, but the large is a good option to split with a friend. I’ve sat in once for lunch and you get a bit more as far as sauces to add, but it is definitely one of the best wraps you can get in Edinburgh. Beware it is cash only!

Late night? Drunk too much? Need some food but don’t want greasy kebab or pizza? Come here and try the falafel and hummus wrap! It’s amazing, but won’t leave you with morning after regrets! But don’t worry if you’d also like something more traditional — they also have kebab, and the pizza is fantastic!

Sorry but it’s rubbish food for drunk people or young people who don’t know what they are putting in their mouth. I ordered shawarma in wrap, the meat are cheap, hard, cold and dry. It’s looks like they pre-cut it and left it out for long time. I lived in Middle East for a long while and the shawarma is soooo tasty.

Tourist to Edinburgh but saw the good reviews and decided to give it a go. The good: seriously large portions, hummus falafel wrap, chicken kabob wrap. I was not impressed with the chicken schwarma wrap though. Quality of the chicken wasn’t great and flavoring didn’t have the depth of great take aways I’ve been to in the States. So, good value for money but I’ll probably try a different place if I go for middle eastern again in Edinburgh.

Ordered large margarita pizza. Pizza was delivered late unfortunately, a bad start. Also the pizza was not cooked right through! I was having to chew through uncooked soggy dough which was not pleasant ! The maranara sauce was poor and lacked flavour and the cheese was bizarre. Won’t be buying a pizza from here again, however I am willing to try other items on their menu.

The best takeaway in Edinburgh. I actually still haven’t had pizza from here, after dozens of visits. The chicken shawarma wrap(close second: standard kebab) is just too inviting and affordable and deliciously comforting. Even sober. Salad and sauce, please.

Palmyra is awesome! Great for a meal after a night out(they’re open late) or a snack during the day. I’d particularly recommend the small falafel(3 pounds with student discount) or small margherita pizza(3.80 with student discount). I went here several times a week during my exchange in Edinburgh and was never left disappointed.

I’m not sure why everyone rants about the falafel wraps from this place. Every time I’ve had them(quite a lot of times on nights out, I’ll admit) the actual wrap has been very hard. This place doesn’t stand out to me!

I confess I’ve only ever been in here for a take-away hummus falafel, which is one of my staples when I’m working in this part of town; but they do make a great falafel wrap with a large one costing a mere £4.50 that will keep you going all evening. They also do the usual mix of kebabs, burgers, pizza etc. and you can even sit in if you’re so inclined, although the Formica décor is not the most attractive. The service is always friendly and efficient, and I’d definitely class Palmyra as serving the best falafel wrap in this area.

Five years in Edinburgh and I had never been to Palmyra; last night this little void was filled. I came here with a friend at 10pm, frustratingly everything else in town seemed closed. I ordered a small falafel(£3.50) but got a 10% student discount upon showing my university card, making it a £3.15 falafel! The falafel looked as though it had not been previously frozen, the hummus was clearly homemade and the wraps were like the ones you get in Lebanon. The wrap was generously packed with salad, falafel and hummus and then toasted and conveniently wrapped in tin foil and a napkin. The lighting inside is a bit dreary, as one expects when it comes to kebab shops, so we took the wraps home. They were super tasty! Fresh, filling and tasty. I couldn’t finish mine as it was so big! I will definitely be back when it need of something cheap, tasty and filling, though advise taking away!

Palmyra may look like the ubiquitous high street kebab takeaway on the face of it but the food it serves far surpasses those expectations. They have a huge menu consisting of pizzas, burgers, kebabs and wraps. It’s the kebabs and wraps that make Palmyra stand out. They have a variety of fillings, including some you won’t find in your average take away, such as Baba Ghanoush, Humus and Falafel(catering well for vegans/vegetarians) Having worked my way through most of them, the Humus and Falafel is my personal favourite. The home made Falafels are awesome; moist with a perfect blend of herbs and spice. The meat options are no less impressive with the meat always succulent and full of flavour. You can also forget the nasty, dried up pitta pocket. Palmyra wraps are made with delicious fresh Arabic bread. As if all of that was not enough, it’s super cheap! A large wrap(and when they say large, they mean LARGE) to take away coming to £4.50! It’s a popular spot, especially being open until the early hours but the staff are always very friendly and the service is extremely quick. These guys have nailed the takeaway kebab and then some!

Cheap and cheerful, Palmyra is the place to stop for a quick bite to eat between work and friends, fringe shows or the cinema. The service is super speedy and friendly, with a varied menu with plenty of middle eastern dishes on offer. I ordered a large humus and falafel wrap for £4.50. When it arrived it was massive and I had to attack it with a fork and knife, so big was the challenge. The feed was finished with a slice of baklava and a fresh peppermint tea. All for comfortably less than a tenner.

Great kebabs at a decent price. I lived down the street from this place and ate here all the time.

Yummy food at a decent price. Top that with an amazing student discount and you’ve got a great place to go for a student on a budget.

I must admit, I’m a fairly new convert to Palmyra, but seeing as a lot of my friends have been going on about it for years, and since I was in the area and hungry a week or two ago I thought it was worth a try. Now, I’m a carnivore through and through. I tend to feel that a meal isn’t a meal unless it contains some sort of meat. But I was feeling adventurous that day, so I thought I’d try a small falafel and humous«sandwich», which is really a wrap. Oh my word, it was amazing. A veritable mixtape of textures and flavours with each bite, leading to me demolishing my lunch quicker than I thought possible. Having gone back for the chicken shawerma twice since(which may have become my new favourite meal), I’ve become a convert and may just have to go back again next week. And the week after. And maybe the one after that…

Palmyra is really good, offers excellent value, and provides dishes that are high on flavour. I opted to visit«the morning after» rather than«the night before» as a pre-emptive strike, but whatever time you’re there, you won’t fail to be impressed by their tasty Mediterranean dishes. Overall, we said: «I was really pleased with Palmyra. Their simple approach to flavour-packed dishes, served in generously sized portions, was exactly what I was needing, this slightly hungover lunchtime. They have ample space for people who want to sit in, but I imagine they do a good amount of their business as takeout. Whatever the case, it’s very much worth a visit, next time you’re in the vicinity.»

I did wonder when my review of Palmyra would manifest itself in late-night kebab form. I have ready many, many good things about it on Unilocal.I have passed it many times, but always during the day when the lure of kebabs have no hold over me. Fast-forward to last night and the end of an amazing Elite Event. After four drams of different whiskies at the tasting, followed by gin I had the taste for a kebab. We all know ‘the taste’ right? So when Robin M piped up with Palmyra, my memory wasn’t hazy enough to forget all those 4 and 5 stars on Unilocal. Inside it’s small, clean and not too fancy. Hey, it’s a takeaway. It was a Wednesday night around midnight so was quiet. Perhaps on a Saturday night at 2am it’s a bit different. But still, pleasant compared to some kebab shops I“ve been in, and distinctly lacking that greasy odour and thickness in the air. At Robin’s recommendation I ordered the Chicken Schwarma wrap. The small(it was still really big!) was only £3 or so. Total bargain! A fresh bread wrap(like a cross between a naan and a wrap really) filled with whole chunks of chicken in a spicy sauce, with salad, then toasted. Yep, toasted. It was fresh, actually quite light and very satisfying. I’m not sure JUST how healthy it is, but it didn’t feel greasy, I didn’t wake up the next day with a kebab food baby and don’t have a kebab hangover. All round win! If you’re hungry, and it’s late, and even if you’ve not had anything to drink, stop off at Palmyra. It’s not your usual greasy fare.

Palmyra is a great place for a late night feast — whether you are returning from a night club with a few bevvies in you or from a massive study session the library and just need to get some for of comfort food — there is always something for you to enjoy. The food is great, and there are always massive portions(try the Shawarma kebab in naan rool, yum!) with the staff being some of the friendliest and funniest I know in any late night place in Edinburgh. If you decide to stay in the restaurant and chat with them, there are plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your food.

Any student in Edinburgh will tell you that Palmyra is an institution in its own right, and they’re not wrong. With two branches near the university and surrounding bars/pubs, this is THE place to go when your late-night munchies kick in. Whatever you’re in the mood for, Palmyra have something to satisfy your junk food needs, whether it be a full-blown kebab, a pizza, the walking home staplefood of cheesy chips, or my personal favourite the humus and falafel wrap. If your heels are hurting your feet, they have plenty of tables to sit at while you munch your way through your food, and the staff are always on hand with jokes and general banter. Or if you’re keen to get home, they’re more than happy to wrap everything up for you to take away. In fact, my only criticism of Palmyra would be the opening hours. Only open until 2am, it does pose the dilemma of leaving a club early but getting food, or staying out later and going home hungry. However, the fact that it opens at 10am every day means they’re always there to sort out your morning-after-the-night-before junk food craving the next day. (Also at 6 Clerk Street, EH89HX)
