Mezcal Mole

They just changed their menu from something that sounded very exciting (which is why we went in) to typical fast-​food texmex. The food was bland, the mole chicken was dry as if it had cooking in the sauce the whole day. Same for the pulled pork. The tacos were stake and not even warm. The food was just incredibly disappointing.
The service, however, was fine.

Where to start…
Décor as the first thing you notice when you walk in is incredibly bare. There are huge swaths of empty floor space that could do with tables chairs ornaments anything… just fill it guys!
The staff are welcoming and friendly. We had the two terrors with us (our kids) and they were more than accommodating which takes the stress off. At a couple of points even entertaining them. Always a bonus point for stuff like that :)
The menu on the door doesn’t match the menu you get inside. And the menus are just printed bits of paper which doesn’t add to the impression you get with the décor. I think these things are small but important when you attend a restaurant. You get the feeling as though they aren’t quite sure what they want to be yet and have just opened their doors with the hope that they’ll find what works best some point down the line… eek not always a good sign…
Now for the food. We opted for the tacos with four options of filling that come in small ramekins. All in all I was impressed with the flavours of the food we had. The mole chicken — excellent. The pulled pork — very good. The meatballs — delicious. The steak… far too overdone and not worth the extra pound. The rice was really limey which I loved and the retried beans are far better than the stuff you get out of a tin. The other gripe was that the corn tortillas had a weird flavour and they actually took away from the taste of the rest of the food. I really didn’t like them and neither did my partner.

I can’t see these guys being in business this time next year. They have the Mexican stand across from the cinema to compete with and they don’t seem to have finalised what they’re all about and what they even want to look like! The food was actually good but everything else really did detract from that.
