At last… a deli that’s a little bit different to all the millions of others around Edinburgh city centre! Rather than trying to stock every single thing that could ever be construed as ‘continental’ or just-foreign-enough-to-justify-tripling-the-price, this place stocks top-quality french and scottish produce. It’s attached to a french restaurant upstairs, and although I’ve never eaten in there if the quality of the produce downstairs is anything to go by then I’ll definitely be trying it out soon. Think cheeses, funny pickles, cured meats, locally sourced fruits, vegetabls and jams and then some, and you’re on the right track. And even if you do’t buy anything, all the amazing the smells will be enough to make you think, or at least wish, you were somewhere in rural Provence and not freezing cold Edinburgh. Just make sure you save this for special occasion dinner parties. It’s amazing and expensive in equal measure.

This is a deli for the serious foodies out there. Feeling like I’ve actually stepped into a shop in France the dark wooden shelves are stocked with some of the tastiest looking food I’ve ever seen. It’s luxurious and high quality and I want one of everything! Unfortunately this isn’t an option for someone on a budget, I left with a birthday present for my foodie dad but wanted more. The owner of this deli also owns the French restaurant upstairs(L’escargot Bleue) so the produce is a mixture of local and imports from France which fits in with L’escargot’s ethos of French food with a Scottish twist. They have olive oils, sauces, condiments as well as a small chilled area with locally sourced meat, and a deli counter with cold meats and cheeses. If you have the money and enjoy food — head here!
