I visited Istanbul Palace last night with Tanya L. and as per usual, I was armed with a voucher. The offer was a drink of raki(aniseed flavoured Turkish drink), cold and hot mezze to share and a dessert. Perhaps raki is of an acquired taste as the waiter offered house wine instead, if we so wished. The mezze arrived, both cold and hot at the same time along with some Turkish flatbreads. Cold one consisted of hummus, saksuka(aubergine in tomato sauce), cacik(yoghurt dip with cucumber, mint, garlic) and cous cous. The hot mezze platter had halloumi cheese, feta cheese ‘cigars’, falafel and sucuk(spicy sausage). Everything was tasty and flavourful and we polished most of it. Dessert was a rice pudding with some sort of Turkish sweet biscuit on the side. It was nice enough, though I’m not usually one to go for rice puddings. I enjoyed the food here and would be interested to know what the actual main courses would be like. Go on and try it out — if you’re lucky there will be some entertainment in form of belly dancers!

A new business. We came when it wasn’t officially opened yet! Food was good but a bit pricey compared to others we’ve been to. My opinion is that it isn’t as good as Pomegranate, Hanam’s, or Nawroz. However, there aren’t many in Leith and they do offer belly dancing entertainment on Saturday nights! Lots of seating available so good for parties. They had mentioned they are getting a new chef as well — worth try especially for the entertainment factor on a Saturday night if in the area!
