Factory Gyms is an excellent gym — the whole place is very laid-back, friendly and fitness focused. They don’t have a spa or pool, but they have brilliant strength & conditioning and cardio equipment. Also have a bunch of martial arts classes — very unusual for a commercial gym. The whole place is very unique, not what you expect at all given the price and location — not at all stuffy. I missed the deal CatOnTheMat mentioned — it’s now £25 per month for 12 months, which I think is still really good.

Don’t know where the first guy got his info from but he’s way off the mark. I run a Maximum krav maga scotland class there and the place is brand new and spotless. All the trainers are top class and really friendly.

Factory Gyms have an excellent deal on at the moment– 12 months membership at £20 squid a month. But how are they so cheap you’re wondering? Because they don’t have a pool. Or a sauna. But they have pretty much everything else and it’s all of top-level quality (I’ve seen the gym for myself). If you’re into cardio and weights then this is the place for you. The location is really handy too– right in the city centre next to the back entrance to Waverly Station (Calton Road). If you fancy a wee looky before commiting to a contract, they staff will happily show you their facilities.

I’ve been in this place just once and I’m not going to go back there. Unfriendly atmosphere, dirty and stinky inside, there’s no cleaner (no paper in the toilet etc). I would not recommend it to my friends
