Edinburgh Central Mosque is a sign of multicultural Britain and the merging of two cultures. I have been to a few Muslim countries– Egypt, Turkey and Tunisia, but have never seen a mosque designed in this way. It is as if it’s structure is done in the traditional Islamic style, whilst the colour and tone to it is very much in the same vein with the rest of Edinburgh and is a credit to the city. I have never had the chance to go into the mosque itself, but will get the opportunity to during the festival period, when it does open its doors to everyone and allows people to be educated on the role the mosque plays within Islamic culture as well as informing the public about Islam itself. A lot of people will have used the ‘Mosque Kitchen’ which offers very tasty, cheap curries and is open to the wider public where profits from the meals sold there go to worthy causes around the world.
