One of my fellow Unilocalers reminded me of the experience I had with DHL last year. It was so bad I had actively blocked it from my mind. This was an international recorded delivery and they tried to delivery during office hours(08:30−18:00) to my home address. They obviously missed me as I am out between 07:00 and 18:30 — working and left a «sorry we missed you» card . When trying to arrange more convenient time(outside office hours or alternative address) I got a ‘no can do’ — recorded delivery you see. A convenient Saturday delivery would incur quite an extra cost as the sender didn’t specify this option and they need to have contact with the sender to allow this.(dafuq?!) Thus I needed to pick up my parcel on a Saturday morning at their nearest DHL Express collection point. Their NEAREST collection point is at the far end of the Edinburgh Turnhouse near the airport. — that was just great, but as I have Ridacard I thought I was able to go by bus — which does take about 40 min. only to find out that they are 4 miles up a dirt track where no buses go. so I had to book a taxi at a nearby hotel(yes, it was raining in Edinburgh, what is new.) drive up to the the collection center, ask the driver to wait, find the unit that has my package — stand in the queue and sign. Then return for my taxi to find it was moved to a ‘long wait’ area way further on the compound. I incurred extra cost for this little Express convenience and that is why I will not ask a delivery from them again.(in case they miss me again during those inconvenient normal office hours) and seriously doubt purchasing from an online retailer if they have only DHL.
