Dean’s(soon to be Moon’s) Convenience Store is simple. No doubt about that. This is great for those who live nearby and wake up to find that there’s no milk or bread in the fridge. A quick pop to Dean’s and this is sorted. So why the mediocre rating? Quite simply, there’s a lack of choice compared to similar stores in the area. I have often gone seeking some snacks commencing a DVD marathon and have upon several occasions left the shop empty handed, as there was nothing that tickled my fancy. Also I find that the prices of non-essential items such as bacon(scrap that, bacon’s essential) to be rather high. However, they do offer freshly made samosas which are delicious and inexpensive, and the owner is always willing to provide you with a warm welcome, even after several times of me walking in and quickly walking out again! You’d think I’d learn… All in all, it certainly is a convenient store if you find yourself dangerously short of morning basics. However if your looking for a bit of variety, you might have better luck with the other stores close by.

Dean’s Convenience Store on Dalkeith Road does exactly what it says on the sign. For all locals this is a great place to come for essential food and drink supplies when the stocks are running low. My friends live in a flat literally thrity seconds walk up the road from here and they’re always talking about ‘heading to Dean’s’ for some bread and milk. The staff are friendly and the shop feels fresh and organised. It(obviously) isn’t as well stocked as some other places in the area and the quality of some of their fruit and vegetables is questionable, but they have a decent range of stuff from biscuits to diluting juice. Further, the prices are all pretty reasonable. If I lived in the area I would definitely be using Dean’s for its good service and value.
