Morocco in Leith? We wandered in here looking for quick lunch and we’ll be back in no time. Café Casablanca is a café, restaurant and gift-shop with a Moroccon theme. The dishes are varied, so while I had spinach and goats cheese wrapped in a filo pastry parcel with lemon dressing and a side salad with olives, the OH had a spicy chicken panini. I also had a moroccan mint tea which was served in an ornate metal teapot and a glass. Other items on the menu included falafel salad and some tagine dishes. There’s also a range of baclawa available at the counter. The interior is cosy and possibly a bit stifling. It’s not very bright and there’s plenty of cool looking lamps and ornaments hanging from the ceiling(all of which are available for purchase) and throws on the seats. The seats do make you want to recline and relax though! The staff are nice and very personable. You get the feeling that this is a family run place. The café itself is quiet and while there’s a few people working on laptops and reading nobody was hanging around too long, though that could have just been a result of the time we came in. There’s a BYOB policy, though a sign says each person must order a minimum of £5 worth of food. Also worth mentioning that, like the other few cafés along Crichton Place, it’s cash only.
