Excellent! Food, service, presentation, and staff. The prices are a bit on the pricier side of things, but worth it for the ambience. Highly recommended!

My husband and I visited Berits and Brown for the first time recently and had a very tasty lunch. Situated about half way down Leith Walk and in a bit of a ‘no-mans land’ with respect to similar establishments. There is a good selection of sandwiches available and if there is nothing you quite fancy, they will make something up for you using the delicious produce available from the deli counter. The sharing platters of cheese, pâté and cold meats looked particularly enticing and I will be making a return visit to try one of these very soon, along with a glass of wine. The presentation of the food was exceptional with one of the best side salads I have had. Usually in cafes, I find the salad is added as an afterthought, but it was delicious and not a limp lettuce leaf in sight! If I had one grumble about this place, I would say that there needs to be a menu on each of the tables as although there is a drinks and sharing platter menu, there is no mention of the sandwiches and other delights available. We wandered around for a while trying to find details of what was available for lunch before finally asking behind the counter for details and we were promptly handed a menu. We spotted a couple of other people having the same problem and one couple wandered in sat down and then left as they thought there was no food available, only drinks. As I say, a minor quibble which could be easily rectified by putting the menus on each table, and it will not stop us returning soon.

Berits & Brown is a relatively new deli opened up on Leith Walk and it had been recommended to me by a friend who lives close by. Having arranged an after work catch up with the girls, decided to give this place a try as we are always looking for new places that we can sit and chat without being in a noisy bar. We had reserved a table beforehand and asked if the weather was nice could we sit outside. Not a problem, even though we pitched up earlier than expected, our table was ready and waiting. Whilst it might seem a little odd sitting outside on Leith Walk, because B&B’s is set back slightly and up steps, its absolutely fine, you have a bit of privacy in the sun and its perfect for people watching. If you don’t fancy sitting outside there is plenty of tables/chairs inside as the deli extends far back and its lovely and clean, fresh, bright and airy inside. There was a nice buzz about the place, it felt very relaxed. We just fancied something light to eat to tide us over until dinner, so both opted for a glass of red and two cheese plates each. For a very reasonable £5.95 you can have 2 different types of cheese, mini oatcakes, toast, grapes, chutney and salad served on a slate platter. I wish I could remember the names of the cheese I had because they were both delicious. If you aren’t sure which to go for, they will happily advise which ones might suit your palate — I wasn’t disappointed with the cheese chosen for me and it was clean slates all round for both of us! To finish, we had 2 lattes. Very nice — stronger than other lattes I’ve had before, but to me that’s a definite plus. Working out at £12 each we felt it was good value for money. Their wine and food menu is fairly extensive and I would say there is something for everyone, whether you fancy a light bite or something more substantial. Service was friendly and efficient and we both felt very welcome. First impressions: Loved it — will definitely return in the very near future. Watch this space…
