okay can I just say thank you enough to this hotel for saving me from a hellish arrival into Edinburgh? I was supposed to stay in a apt(flat) for 2 weeks and upon arrival, there was no elevator and stairways to hell! I am talking Penthouse check in with no elevator and lets say perhaps 300 steps or more? I was so frazzled and distraught that not only was our apt at the very top of a 7 floor apt with 60 pound luggage… it was an apt straight out of a Hitchcock movie!!! I literally ran out of there and stumbled across Ballantrae Hotel on York via What a life saver… Laura the manager there took great care of us and booked us into a suite for 14 days that was well below their normal rate. She was sweet and took care of us immediately… just what I needed! Their staff was so amazing and kind and I felt at home immediately. they serve a nice breakfast in a dining room off the lobby area, it was good but will get boring after seeing the same spread after 14 days! ha ha ha. Adrianne who was the waiter/housecleaning man was an angel and so so kind and helpful. I felt at home and anyone who stays here will dodge the crowds and nestle into a nice comfy room no doubt. Its an older hotel a bit dusty in some areas and not so perfect but I hear staying in these older hotels is something you get used to. As far as clean, it is, as far as good service, it is… as far as safe? …it is… as far as close to Princes street, it is! only 4 blocks, great walking to all the city sights!
