If you’re a guitarist, Intersound is heaven on earth. Focussing mainly on guitars(and spares & repairs for other instruments), Intersound has, for a relatively small local store, the most incredible collection of quality instruments. Even more surprisingly, they always have in stock a small number of Brook hand-built acoustic guitars. These are only sold in a tiny handful of places, and are made by guys who learned their craft from the famous Andy Manson and it shows. I played one of Andy’s at his store in Exeter — price tag around £5,000 — and it was the only instrument I’d found comparable to the Brook I was dithering over at Intersound price tag £1700! They’re not precious about people handling the instruments either, so whether you’re an acoustic guitarist or electric, it’s worth paying a visit just to get your hands on some of the glorious instruments for sale. Fear not though; they’ve got instruments and accessories to suit all budgets, and you’ll get excellent advice about what you really need rather than pressure to spend as much as possible! Great bargains can certainly be had, and the proprietor is open to negotiation on most things. It’s also worth pointing out that they are skilled guitar technicians and they will not only set your guitar up for you but throw in a free service after three months when it has settled a bit. Like most local music shops, it’s a fair bit more expensive to buy cables, books, strings, plectrums and whatnot than it is online. However, it’s worth supporting a store like this; after all, if you need something for that gig tonight it’s no good going to Ebay! This shop is the hub for music-related activity in Dursley: if you’re looking for lessons, looking for pupils or just a musician without a band(or a band without a musician!) then Intersound should be your first port of call. **** And a small personal note: Steve, the proprietor, is known to many as InterSteve due to the large number of music-associated Steves in the area! I have no idea why Dursley should foster a statistically improbable number of guitar-playing Steves, but I’m open to any theories :)
