I expected a lot more. Food was okay but nothing outstanding. Beer taps were broken and that was a big disappointment. Liver and onions was good and breakfast was good. The grounds and setting were spectacular and I do like the big-old-Scottish– Manor feel to the place, it was fun. I might go back if the price were right. There’s a walking path along the river into town, but I didn’t get to go as I was just passing through. The Whiskey at the checkin counter was great! Thanks for the sample.

The Hilton Dunkeld house is situated of the main road and a short drive from the nearby town. From the outside the building looks great, surrounded by trees and in front of the hotel is a river that is popular with salmon fishing. An ideal getaway from the city life all, The hotel in some area’s is a little dated and very worn around the edges the rooms where fine but found it strange why they have four bedside lamps dotted around the room. The room felt cluttered with furniture there where three armchairs that felt constantly in the way. The restaurant carpet was filthy and needed a good hover and a shampooing. The food was good l had the lamb dish for my main course. There is Wi-Fi here but will cost you an arm and a leg to use there is no 3g signal here and mobile reception is poor.

Used to be an excellent hotel and could be again if the dining room was managed properly, it not actually managed at all! Some of the dining room staff should have chosen a career in a non customer facing industry as they have a limited knowledge of customer serviceor smiling. The food is very good and the setting is perfect.

A bit disappointing and here’s why: The restaurant was laid out like a refectory and the British staff members were very curt(I have no complaints about the foreign nationals working in the hotel who were very polite). The food was also served on super heated plates which basically double cooked the prawn dish I ordered as a starter and made them tough. Was pretty disappointed about the quality of the food generally to be honest… it was ‘average’. My parent’s chicken supremes looked as dry as the sahara. The only restaurant reservation times we could get were 1830, 2030 and 2100. The 1830 time was just far too early so we opted for the 2030 time. We sat in the bar for a while having a drink and because of my father’s recent illness he gets tired sooner than later. At 8pm I inquired as to the chances of getting seated earlier(there were plenty of empty tables), the waitress on the restaurant reception told me our table would be ready at 20:30 and absolutely no earlier. Her manner that was blunt, verging on rude. The room we had wasn’t much better than a Travelodge room to be honest and the cleanliness of the bathroom was poor. The tile grout was filthy and my girlfriend refused to use the bath due to the look of it(she did of course shower :)). Also our bedroom window looked out on a car park that seemed to be used mainly by staff and delivery vehicles. It was pretty noisy all the time with the sound of a staff member’s 125 two stroke motorcycle and various banging and crashing going on loading vans. All in all, I feel this is a glorified conferencing hotel for folks out on a corporate jolly. Additionally the amount of tacky self promotion material for timeshares and the like littering all the tables and public spaces made the hotel feel like MacHilton. I was also disappointed with the Dunkeld Hilton because I’d invited my parents to join us for the night and got them a room too. I really wanted to treat them to something special because my father is recovering from a brain operation, sadly my stay the the Dunkeld Hilton left me feeling somewhat embarrassed and annoyed. I should add that the grounds are lovely and there’s plenty of activities such as clay shooting, but as another reviewer pointed out, it’s not cheap.

What a great place to be! Although not a party town whatsoever, this property is nestled nicely on 100 hectres(something like that) of plush Scottish landscape. 20 yards from a prime salmon fishing river, and various outdoor activities including traps/skeet shooting, archery, and the wonderful Land Rover off road driving experience, this little gem in the woods is quite a nice getaway from the busy city life. The commute through the gates up the main driveway is nothing but spectacular, with the city cathedral on the left and a herd of 150 wild deer in the valley on the left, as you make your way further into the property, all existence of civiliazation is left behind and as you part your way through the low rolling fog, it feels as if you are entering a forbidden valley in jurassic park. The hotel itself is nothing spectacular as it’s a 1900’s old cottage like building re-painted some 20 years back to a pasty white exterior. The interior is warming and cozy with the smell of chimney fire as you enter the lobby. Some rooms are newly reno’ed so it gives quite the modern touch and comfort you’d expect from a Hilton(although most UK hiltons will be far from this expectation). The food is mediocre, however i found the mint flavored peas to be extremely interesting as the herbs and mint combo made the peas taste exactly like green apples in my mouth. It was the weirdest sensation. Do take a stroll along the river here however, in the early late fall morning, the frost makes the place look like a winter wonderland without the snow. Bring your guns if you like to practice your trapshooting here. If you dont have one, dont worry, the onsite gunsmith is the pinnacle in custom gunsmiths in the country. You’ll need a hefty chequebook for this though as their guns are truely amazing with a hefty pricetag as well.

Dunkeld House, now a Hilton Hotel, used to be an old country mansion belonging to some high-falootin bloke. It still maintains that country feel, and has plenty of things to do for each member of the family. There’s a pool, steam room, sauna, beauty spa area. And for the adventurous, outdoor activities like clay pigeon shooting, 4w driving courses, all sorts really. The only downsides to the hotel are the lack of decent public areas. The bar area is tiny, and the lounge isn’t much bigger really. Drinks are mighty expensive, so bring extra pennies. Other than that, it’s in a lovely location, and there are plenty of walks to be had round the area.
