He just has to be seen, doesn’t he? I really would love it if he was as old as they say but the cynic in me has doubts. He’s still worth a look though, no matter how old he is. The cold doesn’t seem to affect him either

The Cerne Abbas Giant is certainly a one-of-a-kind destination. The south of England has many figures carved into the chalky hillsides, but this one stands out(snicker). As sights go, it’s a big one(tee hee). When you drive by it’s extremely hard(mmph) to miss. If you did, you’d have to be thick(snort). This huge(haha) hillside image of a man with a massive(tee hee) club arouses(giggle) all sorts of wonder. Is it really prehistoric and linked to fertility rites, as was originally claimed? Or is it a more recent prank? Whichever stance you take, stand up(haw) and be counted. Just be prepared to do some explaining to the kids.

The jaw-dropping Cerne Abbas Giant is a 60 metre carved chalk hill figure. In his right hand he holds a 35 metre long club, he’s naked, and of course one cannot help but notice that he is in every sense a giant. Often thought of as dating back to Roman times, he is said by some to be Hercules, and to be over 1500 years old. However, his history can’t actually be traced back further than the late 17th C. For many years it was local custom to erect a maypole on the Giant’s wazzername, and childless couples would dance around it to promote fertility. Even today such couples are known to visit the site in the hope of conceiving. Whatever turns you on.
