Brewers Fayre – Cheswold Lodge

Really enjoyed this — I was here yesterday with my wife, 2 kids, brother in law, his wife & her son after a day at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park a couple of miles away. We arrived around 4pm & were seated immediately at a table for 7. The staff who served us were young, well presented & attentive, and seemed genuinely interested in & focused on us all having a good time. The food was good decent pub grub — I had a Hawaiian burger, my wife had sausage & mash & my kids had kiddie menu stuff. Portion sizes were generous — I had to leave some chips to have room for dessert, which was an Oreo cookie pie. 3.5 stars for the food, but 4 for the enthusiastic & courteous service, especially the 2 trainees who were there. I’m not often in Doncaster, but if we return we’ll definitely eat here again.

A traditional pub restaurant with great value classic pub food and a relaxed atmosphere. Food is nothing to write home about (with this exception), just simple, honest British pub food. I was slightly disappointed with the deficient range of beers on Draught as well as bottle, and wine/​spirit selection. The service was very friendly, however orders took longer than expected and my dessert of apple crumble was cold, and didn’t quite live up to the menu description and my expectation.
The breakfast however was superb and faultless. All you can eat, cooked to order breakfast with great service. The poached eggs are legendary. This establishment is suitable for all ages and groups, as well as families. Overall 3 stars for food quality, service and drinks range.

It’s wrong how often we visit The Cheswold when we are in Doncaster. We find it’s one of the easiest and best meals we can get at a totally reasonable price.
We often visit Doncaster from the States, as my husband is from there. When we go we spend sometimes weeks in the town and we eat out a lot. The Cheswold is our go-​to place. Our friends in Doncaster laugh when we tell them how often we eat there, but they don’t understand! I think the Cheswold is a great value for what you get. We often get their Fish and Chips which is really good! The other entrees are also good, but the fish and chips is my favorite. The desserts are good too.
The service is excellent, and that’s coming from an American with high standards and expectations. The servers are quick and always check on us throughout the meal. The people at the bar where you order are always friendly.
We usually sit in the bar, but there is a ‘dining room’ to the right as you walk in and it serves a different buffet each night. There is also a children’s play area.
The Cheswold also offers free WiFi, as do most pubs around England. The WiFi here is very slow. It’s the one thing I would like to see improved.
Overall, I’ll be back again and again for a reasonably priced good meal.

Great location, lovely décor, well laid out. Let down by miserable staff, over priced ping ping food and no air conditioning that the place seriously needs as it gets really hot in there. Air con would probably increase staff morale too.
