Cafe India

This restaurant is actually based on a Bangladesh menu. I had the lamb and it was the best I’ve ever had. Their rice portion was small but also superb quality. The spices used were very tasty.

Having attended this restaurant reasonably regularly over the past few years we have always found it not the best, but pretty good. However, we just visited tonight having booked to attend the buffet which is advertised on their website as being available on Wednesday & Sunday nights. We made our booking for 8pm and turned up in plenty of time. On being seated we were presented with the menus and pointed out we were there for the buffet. We were then told we «couldnt have booked for the buffet, as it started at 7pm and was now closed.» We explained that there were no time limits on the website, but this seemed to be totally irrelevant to the staff involved.
The waiter who informed us that he had taken the booking earlier today effectively called us liars and said that he would not have allowed us to book the buffet.
On reaching an agreement that there had perhaps been a misunderstand, I asked what they could do as a matter of customer service to rectify the situation, offering the option to perhaps giving us our round of drinks complimentary (2 diet cokes incidentally)? «No, can’t do that» was the reply.
We then explained that if they could offer us the drinks we would stay — but the waiter was adamant that the misunderstanding was «our fault» and that he couldnt do anything for us. At this point we decided that the attitude of the staff, the reluctance to recover the situation and accept they had any role to play in the misunderstanding.
We then decided to leave the facilities, but asked for the owners details in order to write and complain. This was also met with reluctance and when I asked for them to write it down, it was literally scrawled on a piece of paper to such an extent it was illegible. I then asked them to give me the details verbally and am shortly to write/​email the owner. If the owner is able to recover the situation I will repost on Qype at that point. However, going by the customer service performance of the staff tonight, if I am honest, I do not hold out much hope.
On leaving we went to Dingwall Tandoori Restaurant and were treated with absolutely brilliant customers service (see my other review).
Sadly, I can no longer recommend this restaurant due to the customer service.

If you enjoy good Indian food then this is the place for you. There is a lovely ambiance in the restaurant and good prices too.
