I bought A Giant XCT Composite 3 from Pauls Cycles a week ago. Everywhere else it was about £1150. Pauls Cycles were selling it at £929 a substantial saving. Most reviews were good about them so I placed the order(using the 6 month interest free finance option). I received the contact details from the finance company almost straight away, but no confirmation from Pauls Cycles. So I called the 2 days after I placed the order and they said they definitely had received the order, but were unusually busy. I needn’t have worried, the bike appeared 2 days later(within 3 working days) and after setting the handle bars, the pedals and the seat up, the bike was all in perfect working order. Well done Pauls and thank you!

They do have some good deals on last year’s models, and the staff are full of chum when you are giving them your credit card details. It’s clearly all read from a book though and you have a nice day sir, whatever you are doing The chum evaporates somewhat if you have a problem though. I think Paul’s Cycles are good at what they and carry bikes. A bit like buying a new telly from Tesco, the price is low but don’t expect the same service that you would get from a local TV shop.

Called about bike sizing as they only had a 18″ in stock, I wanted to tell them how I normally ride an 19″ and had been riding a friends 18″ ragley but he wouldn’t even let me finish the sentence said«no its to small for you bye» and hung up on me, hilarious thing is I just wanted to chat about it and if it was to small I was going to buy a different larger bike that I have tried before. shocking service!

I’d looked at the offers on the Paul’s Cycles website for some time, and couldn’t find the same products for less anywhere else, but was sceptical after reading reviews which detailed poor service and faulty products. I was paying £1,700 for a bike which was minimum £2,000 everywhere else, and figured if something was wrong with it, the cost of rectification would still be cheaper overall than buying elsewhere. After making my purchase and receiving delivery I was pleasantly surprised, as everything was fine. The bike was sent through a courier, and my specific instructions for delivery were followed. The bike was very well packed, and did require minimal assembly(as was advised on the website) which was straightforward. All I needed was a set of allen keys and a screwdriver. Whenever I had to phone Pauls Cycles with a query, whoever I spoke to was always very helpful, always referred to me as Sir, and very polite. Very much in contrast to some reviews which said they were rude and unhelpful. We’re all human, and I guess if you treat people with respect you get it back! I would definitely use Paul’s Cycles again, and recommend them to others.

Due to having my bike stolen, I needed to get a replalcement fairly quickly, and the same model I had before as I loved it so much. I found Paul’s Cycles easily online. They were also selling the 2009 model of my preferred choice with a discount of £300 compared with the 2010 model — the only real difference being the paint job. So I ordered it online at 4.15pm, and had confirmation at 10.30am the following day that it had been packaged and the shipment process — max 48hours for £5 extra — had started. Now that’s what I call service. I am writing this review in expectation that all will be well when it arrives — if not I will change my rating /comments but I am sure that won’t happen. UPDATE The bike duly arrived on time — 5 stars so far. However, after many hours of fine tuning and tweaks, I could not get the front dérailleur to shift from the intermediate to the outer cog. As a last resort I rang Paul’s Cycles for advice. The person on the other end of the phone told me to use the adjuster screws — to which? I told him I had done. He then said that I must be doing something else to it. He would not accept that there was anything wrong, and told me to take the bike to a local shop and get them to look at it! Talk about shocking customer service. I duly managed to work the problem out for myself, and surprise surprise I was right — the dérailleur had been incorrectly fitted and not tested by the shop before sending out to me. So 5 stars for speed of delivery, no stars for follow-up customer service, which means 2 out of 5 overall.
