Been here a few times, its not my usual place but its ok for people who don’t like going to the usual places that fots the ‘norm’. This place does attract an alternative crowd and is known to be a student favourite hangout. Good selection of drinks and great place to catch up with friends during the day or have a dance in the evening, open till 2/3am and last entry for free is roughly around 9 or 10pm. This is very much for the alternative.

Revisited the bless this weekend after eighteen years. The only thing that has changed is the wallpaper! Which incidentally is a compliment. Its still a cheap place to drink, still attracts the funkier clientelle, and you can still have a dance without your coat being nicked. There is no equivalent where we live and so we are willing to drive the distance for a good evening.

A really nice pub, the Bless offers a good pint in a civilised environment. Be warned that it is often very busy indeed, especially on Fridays and Saturdays, but nonetheless service remains prompt and polite. Always full of student types, anybody from Derby is sure to meet somebody they know here! Thoroughly recommended.

Very busy pub, very popular with students as halls of residents nearby, but you get a good mix of customers. Run several drinks promotions, though there is always a queue for the bar. There is a courtyard area outside, which is good in the summer. The toilets are very poor — two cubicles in the ladies and they are normally nasty.

The Bless is a popular place for alternative students and locals and is a real refuge from the faceless chain bars in the rest of town. There’s always lots of stuff on, gigs, comedy nights, djs and quizes and so there is always something to create a good atmosphere. There are often drinks promotions on, but on the nights when there aren’t it can be a little more expensive than other pubs around the area. The pub does get really busy and loud sometimes, but on other nights it’s fine for a quiet drink and chat. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants something with more personality that a samey Wetherspoons.

Very popular with students and alternative crowds. Very busy and crowded on the weekends. The music’s pretty good if are into rock/indie. Nice, friendly atmosphere inside with an area for smokers outside. There are often comedy events held upstairs during the week, which aren’t too bad, but there is a charge for tickets. Food is also available, which is your basic pub grub.

Blessington is always a fun place to, well furnished and always busy mix of pub and club with music and small dance floor to the rear, lots of drink offers for differnt nights, has had live music although not sure if it still has, two bars, the bar at the rear has separate drink offer, most of the staff are really nice and polite but some are a bit rude, mix of people that get in there but bouncers tend to stop most trouble before it starts, always open quite late and definately a place not to be missed

This is a staple place for anyone in Derby who still craves for something a little different from the norm. Like any pub, it can get too full, too rowdy, too loud. But it’s a place with no pretensions. In my opinion, that’s something you should always expect of a pub. Yet in city centres all over the nation you are constantly faced with faceless branded franchises. While there are a good many pubs in Derby that are a million miles away from your Weatherspoons and your Screams, I haven’t found one that has the vitality of the Bless, and one that, despite the smoking ban, is still packed to the rafters week after week. A good selection of beers, bitters, and spirits all fairly priced and served with, mostly, a welcome smile. Good Djs/taste in music, nice décor, and a layout that caters for all sizes of crowds. It’s the kind of place that your mum might say Is it still there? We used to go there every Saturday! but it’s not stuffy and old. It’s moved with the times by retaining it’s own identity separate from Slugs, Lettuces, and old Mr. Yates.

The bless is very popular amongst students and plays a lot of indie /rock music. They often have live bands performing. The bar is quite large with two separate outside seating areas and pool tables. A great bar any night of the week, obviously busiest at weekends. The prices are really competeitive and have offers on most nights. A real favourite before heading into the centre of Derby.
