Lovley food and brilliant service! Nothing was to much of an issue! All good was cooked fresh and was excellent! Highly recommend this pub!

A lovely country pub with a roaring log fire — idyllic. The food is brilliant and a fair price for the quality. The only negative would be that the portions are tiny! I have been several times(my mums favourite pub) and left hungry on all occasions.

Went with the family recently for Sunday lunch, interested to see the changes that have been made. Oh dear. Cramped car park, less than half the size it used to be due to making room for a new adjacent building; cramped tables(I had to contort myself to squeeze past the sharp edge of the mantelpiece to get to my seat, and ended up with said sharp edge in my kidneys). Re. the food, portions were small and there was little choice of menu, although the meagre amounts we did get were nicely cooked. Rather expensive for a pub meal too, close to £60 for a main and sweet for 4 of us, with no starter. The food seemed to have an identity crisis, unsure if it was pub grub or nouvelle cuisine with the small portions and drizzled sauce presentation. Found the staff rather distant and not particularly friendly, apart from one young lady with a broad, ready smile and welcoming attitude. We used to frequent the Black Horse quite regularly some years ago, it was a straightforward friendly village pub with good honest grub then. I fear the recent changes seem to be more about extracting maximum cash from the venture than about looking after customers. Shame.

visited with friends, after a years break. The menu was ok,(not the bar menu) although more expensive than in the past. Starters were adequate, but the main courses left the men in our party undernourished ! The worst part of the experience was the appaling service offered. The meals were dumped on the table, leaving us to re shuffle our orders. Knife and forks wrapped in paper serviettes, didnt warrant the prices charged. I asked the waitress if it was possible to have a pepper mill, and was told the ground white pepper in the cruet, was the same, just ground finer ??? Getting our drinks replenished proved to be an impossibility. When paying the bill, we were asked if everything was ok? well we would have liked more food was our comment. This was totally ignored. Why ask, if you dont want an answer. Shocking customer relations. All in all, reasonable food quality, with poor service and very overpriced. Positive there are better places to visit nearby.

Had a lovely relaxing night in the Black Cow. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the food was good honest pub grub and excellent value for money. Will definitely be going back — lots of other puds to try!

The pub has changed hands recently. The new menu is not as good and neither is the food. A 10oz gammon steak was only as thick as a good slice of bacon and the veg was badly cooked; the broccoli was mushy and the carrots under-cooked. One can only hope that it will improve — it used to be excellent and our favourite place for lunch.
