I have used JP Carty 3 times but will not be using them again. There is nothing wrong with the quality of their work, in fact it is a good standard. The first time I used them it was a day long job as the electrician they sent was very nice, thorough but painstakingly slow! However the quality of the work was good and it cost £250(1998). The second time I used them was to place a simple light fitting. This time thework was done in 40 minutes and satisfactory though I found the unit was left a little loose but have since tightened that myself. The third time was after a fuse blew in fuse box. This happened on turning on a light whose bulb went but in doing so there was a big flash at the light switch and I got quite a belt. I was sure it was just the fuse but better to be safe. Carty’s sent an electrician who confirmed it was just the fuse wire one, changed it — all in exactly 15mins. I asked how much I owed and he said probably nothing for a bit of fuse wire and we’d use them before. I said I was quite happy to pay for the peace mind though. We heard nothing for over 4 weeks when a bill arrived for over £40. I think that is a very high price for 15mins and bit of fuse wire. In future I will shop around for an electrician and take on board more people’s recommendations.
