The Slug & Lettuce

Pros — cheap alcohol, friendly doormen. Cons — grubby, sticky, minging toilet facilities. I wouldn’t eat here.

I like this place for quick lazy diner. Menu is mix of British and English cuisine. Every day is diffrent happy hours and 2 for 1 coktiles .Nice friendly staff.

Service was friendly but slow last time but they were brilliant about it and sorted it. We are back and very happy take a peek at our view from picture x have fun here.

Wine Down Wednesday strikes again. Have I gushed about how much I love this offer before? Yes, yes I have. But that was at the other Slug and Lettuce. You might not have read those reviews.
This location is a bit dubious. Settled next to the likes of The Living Room, Moon Under Water, and La Tasca, the post-​work crowd can be a bit threatening — lots of suits and high heels. At the weekends this only gets worse. However, I was pleasantly suprised when we went for a drink last night as there was nothing rowdy about the crowd. There was one strange man who was on the quiz machine for the whole 2 hours we were there — there’s always one — but the rest were a mix of families, ladies who liquid lunch and dinner, and us.
The décor is quite Wetherspoons-​y compared to the Albert Square branch. It’s not as clean cut and nowhere near as airy. We opted for a small table towards the front of the room as it was a nice day but not nice enough to encourage us to branch to outside drinking. We drank a lovely bottle of Sauvigon Blanc for £10.95, priced at £19.00, and herein lies why I love Wednesdays.
We didn’t eat but there is an eating area at the back of the room which looked a bit gloomy and unloved.
This is better location wise for my flat but, for the sake of not wanting to develop SAD, I think I’ll stick to the other branch.

My visit to the Deansgate Slug & Lettuce was my first to the chain so I was a little unsure what to expect. I went there on a Monday evening, where they have a special offer of 50% off all food, which was very pleasing.
The décor and menu is that of a slightly more upmarket version of Wetherspoons in my opinion. For my main I opted for the steak philly sandwich, which was pretty nice considering the price. It came with plenty of chips and some nice coleslaw, so overall I was pleased. The waitresses were friendly, but the service was quite slow (some kitchen problems apparently!). I would visit Slug & Lettuce again when considering a slightly more informal meal.

This is a good place to go to to eat on an afternoon, with lots of seats and standing area if you choose, you can eat in the bar area or in the Resteraunt, we ate in the bar area and the food and service were good. However, if you go here on an evening and try to get a drink, make Sure you go to the bar when nobody is ordering cocktails, because these take an age, and before you know it the bar is two or three deep. Don’t get me wrong the service from the bar staff is good, it’s just the waiting part, it may be me but I don’t like to Que. for too long.

Im sure this is a great place to go for after work drinks or for some pub grub but I certainly wont be going there on a Sat night again. The place was half empty and there were some dodgy looking people about. The loos smelled as though the hadnt been cleaned for months and the bar service was slow.

The Slug and Lettuce which effectively overlooks Manchester’s Town Hall is a pretty faceless bar that doesn’t do much to grab you by the lapels and shake you into a fevered giddiness.
With that, the pub/​bar is a perfectly reasonable place to have a pint. There’s very little to remember about it sure, but by the same token, very little to dislike about it.
The food is okay and the beer is… well… beer.
The patrons are just people sitting around glugging and chewing and neither bores nor hipster idiots.
The single best thing about The Slug and Lettuce is that, should you be feeling a bit lazy, there’s a constant line of black cabs waiting outside to whisk you away to either somewhere more memorable or home.
While this seems quite negative, it really isn’t. The Slug and Lettuce is one of those pubs that you go to when you have a group of mates who like entirely different things.
Its so inoffensive that anyone could have a reasonable time in there.

The last time I went to Slug and Lettuce was in the company of friends and colleagues most of whom are from Asia and Middle East. The buffet we had consequently contained many dishes from Indian cuisine, and mainly vegetarian. Perhaps, its biggest selling point is Sky Sports. Not only will you find respectable people coming in to watch some sport action, there will always be someone outside glueing to the window to see the score. Something to be prepared for if you choose to sit by the window.

Do you remember that I was saying something about a dude in an open relationship? The same guy took us out for a pint. Where? To Slug & Lettuce .
Well, he was with a girl already, talking, drinking, eating whatever. We got there a bit later, so the girl was on her way home. We’ve decided to move immediately, but no, the guy wanted a pint in this place. Hmmm, not the usual for us I must say. Anyway, the pint was really expensive. Surely it’s no need to say that. Pretty obvious. Didn’t check out the food, but I heard it’s not the tastiest and not the cheapest either. After few rounds on the quiz machines, we’ve decided to leave the slugs behind and to move somewhere else, where we can buy a couple of pints, for the price of one in this ‘posh’ place, named extremely silly ‘Slug and Lettuce’. So, my conclusion is: go there if you are hungry, not if you fancy beer; oh, and I don’t think it’s a casual place where you can go on a weekly basis either. Just now and then will do.

*Laughs maniacally* This is one of the surrounding chains that makes The Living Room look like it’s trying too hard. Come on, you can’t claim to be posh if there’s a Slug on the street. Wow. There’s a sentence I never thought I’d say. Then again are slugs a posh creepy crawly? Couldn’t you just imagine a slug with a bowler hat and a pipe moaning about the stock market?
Ahem. I didn’t bake funny brownies today, I promise. Slug is perfect for Deansgate. It’s a chain, but a classier one, so all those people shopping in Kendal’s will be pleased enough with it (unless they’re using the Kendal’s restaurant, which technically they should because it’s ace) and it’s also handy for the Deansgate nightlife, should you be into that kind of thing, alongside theatre performances and MEN events. Well, you could say that about any restaurant in the city centre but Slug seems to want to shout about it.
For all those of you who work on Deansgate or get into town early, Slug does a nice breakfast and brunch with toast, bacon, sausage and/​or egg butties, full English with a veggie option, and a selection of pastries and cakes with hot beverages. I’m a fan of the starters and sharers here. Ciabatta bread sticks with garlic, bread baskets with olives, oil and vinegar and houmous, cream cheese stuffed peppers, wasabi tempura vegetables or wedges with bbq and sour cream sauces. Bliss. It might be simple, it might be chain fodder, but tastebuds don’t lie. You can have these as platters alongside nachos, crispy duck and the like.
Food is fairly simple. Sandwiches and wraps are the stunners here with a BLT and even an FLT (falafel, lettuce and tomato), grilled chicken, croque monsieur, and tostadas which are pretty super. Mains include classics like gammon and eggs, cottage pie, burgers, steak, chilli and some more unusual offerings such as butternut squash, spinach and goat’s cheese lasagne and channa daal. There aren’t many puds to choose from but the ones there are pretty lovely and they’re usually two for one. It’s great to fill a gap, this Slug. Don’t eat an actual slug though, that wouldn’t be nice.

Looked promising but only okay. It was conviently was across the street from the hotel I was staying at. Had the steak and mushroom pie and fishcake salad, both were not bad. The pie was too salty. Beer was good.

We visited on a busy Saturday afternoon. The ambience and décor were agreeable, however the service at the bar was extremely slow. We waited 10 – 15 minutes to be served despite there only being a couple of customers waiting at the bar. Due to this we decided against eating here, although the food passing us seemed to be well presented with sizeable portions.
