Ah man, this is my new local chippy and I think I might actually drive back to my old one now. We went in at about 8pm on a Friday night and ordered a medium cod and chips, two saveloys, a battered sausage, another portion of medium chips and a pickled onion. Then started a whole heap of problems. Problem 1: It took about 10 minutes to get our order all cooked and ready because they didn’t have any chips, only one piece of fish and saveloy on the pass and no sausages. Considering it wasn’t packed but not dead, with a steady stream of one customer every five minutes, I was pretty surprised. Why wouldn’t you have stuff on stand-by on a Friday night? Really? Problem 2: Because they had the cod and saveloy, they decided to bag it up straight away… leaving it in a bag for 10 minutes to get nice and cold before the rest of the food was done. Nice. Cold fish. Mmmm. Problem 3: When the food FINALLY was cooked and ready, I asked for my chips to basically be swimming in salt and vinegar. Yes, I’m one of those people who likes their chips basically soaked in the brown stuff and coated with salt. Like chipsticks. However, when it came to eating it, if I hadn’t seen her put some on, I wouldn’t have noticed. I like chip shops where they let you do it yourself because let’s face it, shops never do it the way you like it. Problem 4: The food had NO flavour. The fish(cold, as I’ve already said) was bland. No seasoning in the batter and none after it was cooked either. The chips were also flavourless and a bit too soft for me, the saveloy didn’t taste of anything and the sausage was the same again. I don’t expect to have to coat everything in salt just to be able to taste my food. Problem 5: We asked for a pickled onion. When we got home, we realised they’d given us an onion and an egg and charged us for it. We haaaate pickled eggs. Don’t get me wrong. My partner liked his sausage and chips. But then he doesn’t like too much salt and vinegar on his, so for someone like him, Hippie Chippy would probably be great. But for me, my dinner was cold and bland. I have enough faith in them that I’ll try them again, but I don’t have high hopes. Not by a long shot.

Decent quality grub. The freshly cooked cod almost tempura-like. A basic chippie, but a good clean shop and friendly staff.

I grew up working at my parents Fish & Chips, seen it all. This is one of the best I’ve eaten, enough said.

Really good fish and chip shop! Good quality fish and chips however on the slightly expensive side.

My dad would always take us here on a Friday. He’s church of England but would always respect my mothers catholic heritage by honoring no meat on Friday. The 1st time must have been when I was 6 years old. Will write some more soon… Tired…
