This is far superior to The Old Yard Tapas Bar and serves authentic Spanish dishes with good quality ingredients. We’ve just enjoyed a fantastic lunch could have gone for the set menu which seemed very good value but thought we’d splash out for joint celeb got a bit carried away and had about 7 dishes(far too much for 2) and a bottle and half nice merlot reasonably priced at £60. Food was fab, lovely atmosphere despite the restaurant being quiet and friendly staff. Will definitely be going back there

Still a relatively New Kid on the Block in Darlington as it has only been open 4 months. Darlington has been in desperate need of a decent Spanish Tapas Restaurant since the closure of El Coto in July 2008. We have been 6 times since December 2011& we have not been disappointed. Every time we have been, usually on a Thursday or Friday night, it is always busy, so I’d recommend booking a table. There is a good choice & variety of dishes including the Lebanese special. Diverse enough to suit most people’s tastes. It’s good quality & always fresh. Great holiday atmosphere along with superb service & great attention to detail. Prices are spot on too. For 2 of us, including 2 glasses of wine &2 beers, the bill is usually around £40 to around £45. We have recommend Sol Taps to a number of friends & family, who have all been & like us, have not been disappointed. Definitely one to add to the circuit.

Although this restaurant opened only recently, just by word of mouth it’s already become one of the most popular in Darlington. Serves an excellent range of tapas but also has a superb a-la-carte menu. The paella served at Sol is the best you’ll get outside Spain. There’s a meal deal on Monday-Thursday which is absolutely outstanding value. Highly recommended!

Sol has recently opened next door to another Darlington favourite The Oven. Well, what can I tell you about this little gold-mine? It serves fabulous Spanish food; you can choose either from the Tapas or the A-la-Carte menus and won’t be disappointed. The service is friendly and the food is exemplary. There’s a early bird specials menu available from Monday-Thursday which offers 2 courses for an unbelievable £7.99 We’ve been here 3 times already and will definitely be making Sol one of our regular haunts! You’ll love it!

Sol opened just before Christmas and a group of us visited on Saturday for the first time(because Empire Grill was closed hopefully not permanently). We got the last table available for that evening at 6pm so booking is necessary. The staff were excellent and helped us with selecting the sharing dishes for our group and were friendly and fun. The food was equally excellent there wasn’t a single dish that we didn’t hugely enjoy. Beware the deep fried chiilies, the red ones were very hot. The highlights were the Seafood platter, the black pudding with beans, Cod Tagine and the Spicy sausages. We’ll certainly be going back.
