My partner and I enjoyed a wonderful meal at Maxines last night. Ive had great meals with friends there, then my partner and I went to the New Year Ball, but although we had a great night the food was disappointing, Anyway I pursuaded him to give the restaurant another chance and he was seriously impressed. We went for the early bird special, which is £16.95 for 3 courses on Friday. We had tomato and chive soup with stilton croutons, spring onion and artichoke risotto(served with side veg) and strawberry cheesecake. All perfectly cooked. Lovely setting and good service. Will definately be back.

Just been back to Maxine’s for Sunday dinner & I must say what excellent value it was. At £11.95 for 3 courses you can’t go wrong. There were 7 of us dining where, between us, we had the salmon or soup to start with, followed by roast beef or chicken & then finally the cheesecake. Good sized portions, nice al dente vegetables & great Yorkshire puds! Service was good in a nice & relaxed atmosphere. Definitely recommend everyone gives this a try. The only reason I have marked down by 1 star is that the food could have been a little bit hotter.

I went here with my Mother and Father, Wife and Mother-in-law for Mother’s day. There was a three course menu with a £19.95 fixed price due to it being Mothering Sunday. The atmosphere in Maxine’s is rather relaxed and is pretty good and the staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful especially since one of our party had extra dietary requirements. I’ve read a number of these reviews and am surprised that people quote the food as being so good. I’m not certain if it was because it was a special three course menu on this occasion, but I would grade the food as ‘average’ at best. I had the fruit starter which consisted of rather hard unripened melon(cantaloupe and charentais), blackberries, raspberries and a rather nice Kiwi sorbet(wasn’t sure wehther to use the starter knife and fork or soup spoon for this one ;), although the Asparagus soup looked very good and the Venison and Guineau Fowl terrine wasn’t too bad. The main course was probably the most disapointing, I had the sirloin of beef and everyone else had the lamb. I think all the meat was pretty chewy and a sharper knife could have come in useful to hack through it. To be fair the portion size of the meat was pretty generous, but I would have preffered more focus on the quality side. The vegetables were mediocre and looked like they may have been sitting around for a while in a heated tray. I think the desserts were probably the best course. I had the croissant and raising bread and butter pudding with ice-cream; although this was very nice, it was rather dry and a bit of good old custard would not have gone amiss(or even a bit of extra ice-cream would have helped mositen the palette). All-in-all I was slightly dissapointed, but will definitely try the restaurant again on a –none-special’ evening during the week to see if the food does fair a bit better. I’m giving four stars because although I was dissapointed with the food, we still had an enjoyable experience(and everything washed down nicely wth a bottle of sparkling prosecco!)

I am a big fan of Maxine’s. It is elegant and classy, quiet yet relaxed. The décor is immaculate and there are nice touches like fresh flowers. The early bird special is fantastic, as you get a meal I would expect to pay at least £80 for two people for £30.

Gorgeous food, and a brilliant atmopshere, the staff were very helpful and welcoming. Prices aren’t bad and you get what you would expect. A really nice place!

I am a big fan of Maxines. It offers the food, service and setting of a top quality restaurant and even retains this quality in the food during the early bird — where you get 3 courses for around £10. You wont believe it till you try it. With the early bird and a bottle of very nice quality Pinot Grigio(between 3 people) we paid £15 in total each, felt completely stuffed and thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. This early bird runs til 7pm, 6 days a week, so after 7pm their menu is a more expensive a la carte. The setting in a grade 2 listed hotel, which is owned by the Bannatyne group, where money on getting the look right has been well spent — its a gorgeous mix of quality old and contemporary furnishings.

Maxines is within walking distance from the Town Centre. It has lovely food and good service. Food is reasonably priced and offers good meal deals such as an early bird evening special– 3 courses for approximately £10. The décor is elegant and there is a nice outdoor area to sit in nice weather. This is a popular restaurant as standards are high, therefore it is always worth booking in advance for lunch and evening meals. Though they will generally squeeze you in if possible.
