Personal favourite for special occasions in my family. Loved by all. Always busy but a great atmosphere and consistently good food and service.

This review is just for the upstairs area and the service, not for the food. I visited here for a family reunion. We met in one of the upstairs dining rooms which was very nice and had ample space for everyone. The meals were very nicely presented and most people enjoyed the food. However, the meals came out in a confusing order, and some people had finished before others had even been served. This made for a longer than expected length of time in the restaurant area. The party size was 23 people(I think) so I wouldn’t have expected the main course service to take quite so long. They had everyone’s orders the week before the meal, so timing shouldn’t have been an issue, but it was.(To me, maybe I’m being picky) Everyone enjoyed the reunion, and it was nice to sit chatting in the attached beer garden after the meal. We would probably have a reunion there again, because it is a very nice place, but the food service let it down a bit for me.

Book early for this popular restaurant, as it fills up quicklyit is well known for doing wonderful food, and is busy every weekend as well as throughout the week. It is tucked away in Dalton, just outside Barrow-in-Furness — you’ll probably need a car to get there, as it’s a bit of a walk. It’s not that cheap, but you get what you pay for as the portions are HUGE and very good quality. Gorgeous traditional food, with a wide and varied menu plus specials menu — nothing too fancy, just good hearty home-cooked meals, lots of steaks and the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. There’s a traditional bar downstairs filled with ale drinkers, which is always busy, while the airy restaurant is upstairs — meaning people enjoying a meal can relax upstairs, and then go downstairs for a few drinks when they have finished. Friendly service, and the puddings/desserts are delicious toowell worth a visit!
