I thought the animals in the zoo deserved a review of their own since they are the main attraction. South American wildlife and those from the rainforests can be considered this zoo’s speciality. Over the several visits I have made, I’ve been impressed with the quality of care of the animals which is apparent in the condition of fur and feathers as well as the liveliness of animal activity. There is a good range of both large and small animals, mammals, waterfowl and exotic birds. All enclosures for the wildlife offer some variety and measure of freedom, be it trees to swing and climb in, water, climbing frames or ropes, it all makes for an enjoyable time. The buildings are all timber constructed and provide different layouts suitable for their inhabitants, plus there is a separate building, more like a hot house environment where you can see some interesting fish and reptiles, as well as exotic plants and water features. I’m yet to see a list of feeding times for each animal although the staff I asked about this, were able to give me a rough idea as to the hour when it would be taking place and which direction I should go to first. Some of the wildlife you can expect to see: — tapirs, capybaras, otters, spider monkeys, marmoset monkeys, macaws, snakes, iguanas, jaguars, flamingos, various wildfowl, caracaras, azaras agouti, rheas
