Many of us use the phrase, «Mi casa es tu casa», but rarely has it felt more appropriate to me than when I enjoyed the hospitality of this delightful family run restaurant. There is no pretension about the place. It is a restaurant that serves classic Spanish tapas & main meals and does them well! The«Scottish branch» of my family have been here many times, but for me it was a first. To start I had the Albondigas(meatballs in a tomato sauce) and Patatas Bravas,(potatoes in a spicy tomato sauce). Both were fantastic. The absolute highlight, however, was my Paella Marinara — the seafood paella. A sizeable portion of spiced rice with fresh seafood including Mussels, Squid & some giant Tiger Prawns. Served in the cooking skillet, it was a real treat. In addition to the classic dishes, they also do specials, one of which I’d have definitely ordered had I noticed the board in time. It was Chorizo & Black Pudding in Red Wine which sounds mouthwateringly good. If seafood isn’t your thing, my Mum & brother both devoured a steak & my Aunt had Pollo Cacciatore — a tasty chicken dish. I finished with Helado Con Peras, Pears & Ice Cream which was also superb. The owner and his family are very welcoming and if you like Spanish food, or are simply curious to try it, then get yourself to La Ducal for a lovingly prepared, relaxing meal.

A Spanish restaurant, in Cowdenbeath, is this some sort of crazy joke? No people, this is for reals! It’s not what you expect from a town with its humble past in coal mining but this place is really worth checking out if you live in or around Cowdenbeath, or perhaps visiting the nearby Mossmorran gas plant for work. The restaurants itself is really pleasant, warm and snug. The tapas really were a proper treat and the seafood paella looked and tasted fantastic. As you would expect, being located in Cowdenbeath, you get very good value for money, so expect generous portions at a very fair price. A big gracias to La Ducal for a fantastic noche!
