This is an excellent wee company based at the Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre. We just had a day there doing bushcraft survival. Amongst other things, we learned how to build a shelter, what sort of wood is best to make fires with, we made our own fires using what we’d gathered and using the wee sparky metal stick, and we also learned about edible plants and how to get drinkable sap from trees. It was an excellent day! It was also really comfortable — there is a fantastic cosy wee base camp site with a big teepee type construction that you all sit in at lunchtime, and you can cook your lunch on the fire. And for the ladies, there is even a compost toilet hut — much appreciated as I really didn’t want to wee in the woods — that just strikes fear into the heart of a city girl like me! Our leader was Ian — a friendly and knowledgable man who passed on his knowledge in a fun and interesting way, but making sure we were safe using the axes and saws. My favourite bit was probably using the axes to chop up the wood — I’ve never used an axe in my life but I have now! It’s fun to chop wood! They also do things like fishing and archery. I would definitely go back and would highly recommend this as an enjoyable and different day out.
