Location location location and its a little wasted. Don’t get me wrong but this pub is built into the roman wall and the largest surfing roman gateway in Britain. Its a largish pub nice décor but limited real ales obviously a brewery pub. It would be so good as a free house with loads of good beer. Still its got a great location and a balcony patio.

They are looking to improve their food offering. As far as Colchester goes, it’s one of the better proper pubs, although it could so easily be 4⁄5 stars with minimal effort.
If you are in town and looking for somewhere to drink, its a safe bet, but you wont be left feeling wowed.

One of the finest pubs in Colchester, The Hole In The Wall caters for all comers. An impressive selection of ever changing ales and incredibly cheap pub food makes this the ideal spot for a relaxed lunch. At night time the pub can get quite lively, but the atmosphere is always friendly. The young bar staff are helpful and hygenic. There is a good patio to the front, and a terrace with great views at the back.
