Been here a couple of times now, and both have been great experiences. The menu whilst not extensive has been different each time, all with Italian slant but definitely not the usual pizza /​pasta fare. Service is first class.

Walking in Constable country on a loop from Manningtree station we found ourselves in Dedham around lunchtime and chose to have some lunch at the Sun Inn.
Coming from the country myself I know that food can be pretty hit and miss in country pubs but the Sun Inn’s food was fantastic. So good, I would consider coming here again.
Inside is cosy and warm with a selection of nice ales and wines, at the back is a restaurant section and outside there is a terrace and garden.
For food there were delicious pastas with ragu, pigeon, grouse, steak and more. This is not a sausage and chips kinda place. Prices were reasonable and far less that what you’d pay in London for a similar quality.
This pub is one of the possible lunch stops on the TimeOut Country Walk of Constable country.

Excellent pub with extremely fast and friendly service. Popped in there for a lunchtime snack and a few beers after a nice walk along the river.
Good range of real ales and a fantastic ploughmans. Chunky soda bread with a choice of three cheeses on the plate with gherkins and onions.

Really excellent food and drink. Really enjoyed our stay here. The chef clearly cares about quality and sourcing as everything seems to come locally, so i was very happy to see a bill that didn’t blow my socks off after a decent Saturday night dinner! Will go back again soon.
