On our madmax tour, this pub was recommended by our tour guide for lunch. They had a variety of food such as fish and chips, sandwiches, Mac and cheese, soup, etc. On a time crunch, we ordered some sandwiches which were pretty good and decent. This is a counter service kind of restaurant and wouldn’t mind stopping by again if in Lacock.

I feel like there is a Red Lion in every UK city which is great because i always had a good experience there. They had a good selection of local ales and cider and a nice fireplace(perfect for a chilly fall day). This place is a big touristy attraction and super close to where harry potter and pride and prejudice were filed. They have harry potter pictures all over the place so if you are a fan like me definitely check it out.

So this review is just for the pub/restaurant portion of the Red Lion, not the B & B aspect, which I also experienced and was highly enjoyable. This place is in a lovely historic building and symbolizes a traditional English pub, but one whose menu is stuck in the 70’s and is run by a brewery(Wadworth). The VLT(I don’t know the UK term, video gambling machine) looks oddly out of place in the rustic interior. The bartender will provide you with table service if you are entertaining the restaurant portion, but this is where the lines blur, as there is no distinct seating from the pub and the restaurant. I am very confused looking on the Red Lion’s website as the menus posted there are not the menus we were given in the restaurant. There was no offer of pork, apple and cider casserole, or a deep fired halloumi cheese. Our selections were like eating at my in laws whose cooking is stuck in the 1970’s. Gammon with a slice of pineapple; sausage, egg and chips, I went for a traditional fish and chips, served with some steamed peas. We also decided to start with the bread and olives, which was very good, I don’t know if they baked that bread, but it was nice. My main was fine, the Wadworth ale was fine, it was all fine. It was quite expensive though for what you were getting. When you look at the prices and think it’s ok, but then remember those figures are in pounds, I cry a single tear! I recommend utilizing the Red Lions Bed and Breakfast, because their breakfast is great and their rooms are lovely!

What a lovely pub, idyllic location in the heart of Lacock and owned by Wadsworth brewery. We didn’t eat but the food looked fantastic, the new ‘Corvus’ stout is the best Irish style stout I have tasted outside of Ireland, with a beer like that … who needs food

A wonderful place to eat and stay. The staff are incredibly helpful and pleasant. The prices are reasonable and the standard of the rooms is excellent. I would stay here again without a doubt. There are an awful lot of places to stay in the country that could learn a lot from here.

Not quite as old and cozy as the nearby George Inn( ), the Red Lion is nevertheless a very nice pub with lots of outdoor space and a tasty menu. Located in the historically-preserved village of Lacock, it’s a fine stopping place when you visit.
