So nice to find a quality restaurant like this in Chippenham. High quality food, well presented. Small dining room, but not crowded nor noisy. Starters are imaginative without being too over the top. I had the Cod Cheeks with Stornoway Black Pudding and my wife had the Mozzarella. Both excellent, and correct portions for a starter. Steak(me) and Salmon(wife) followed. Both prepared to a very high standard. I think my steak was the best piece of beef I have ever had at a restaurant in the UK. Plus a very nice bottle of Rioja, which was recommended. We will be going back, hopefully soon!

I wanted to report on my second visit here, because it served to confirm that my good impressions from the first visit were no fluke. I had two specials: chicken caesar salad and duck breast. The chicken was very tasty, and the salad was made with anchovies and a perfectly done soft boiled egg; the anchovies are important to the dish, but are often left out. The duck was unusually tender for wild duck; it was served with sage polenta(just right, slightly crispy but soft in the middle) and a mix of greens and wild mushrooms. My wife had duck confit ravioli and tagliatelle with mushrooms, chestnuts and brussels sprouts — a intelligent take on a vegetarian Christmas. She continued the Christmas theme with baked apple with allspice panna cotta, which she would be happy to have again anytime. This time we hit the cocktails; I went off-menu with a classic dry martini. I was happy to see the restaurant almost full this close to their opening, and on a mid-week night, too. What continues to impress me is the sensitive and intelligent flavour combinations in each course.
