Stopped by here for lunch as we were in the area. The menu is on a comfort-food bent, and the cottage pie reflected that. A good sized portion, but with not enough seasoning — and it turns out it’s pretty difficult to season a pie like this after the fact. The fish and chips were pronounced«pretty good». The service was friendly enough, and the pint I had was well kept. Not sure I’d go out of my way to come here, but I’d probably stop around again if I was nearby.

First of all, extremely overpriced. That said, the food was good. Not great, but good. We had three children with us, two of which had cottage pie and one fish and chips. The prices for children’s meals were ridiculous. Two of us had a roast dinner(beef and lamb). The lamb went down great, the beef was ok but a bit gristle-y. My wife had the fish and chips. It LOOKED great. But one major problem. It was pre-salted with sea salt. My wife doesn’t like salt so there’s a major problem there. This is the second place we’ve been to recently that does this. Why? You can ADD salt, but you can’t take it away! We sent it back and it came back with a fresh, unsalted fish. Unfortunately it was on top of the same pre-salted chips. It did not get eaten and I had to ask the head waiter or whoever he was to take it off the bill. He was apologetic and told us that he’d have a word with the chef about doing this as they provide salt on the tables and pre-salting, he agreed with me, was stupid. This aside, it’s a bit pretentious is this place. If you’re looking for an upmarket venue then this is it. But for Sunday lunch with the kids… not really. Beware the prices of both food and drink. Would we go back? Nope. Not ever. Sorry.

I’ve become a real ball buster about restaurant reviews. With this said, we absolutely LOVED the food here. The fish and chips were massive and yummy. My shepherds pie was fan-freaking-tastic. Just like the menu highlighted– the meat was superb, potato topping cooked and seasoned perfectly, and the entire dish was visually on point. Everyone at the table agreed that the crispy duck salad was a home run! Perfect! The greens were fresh, duck oh so crispy, and overall taste was worth flying back to England for. Finally, our server was not only responsive but got our food out promptly– we asked for it to be rushed due to another commitment and he did it with a smile. Thanks for a great lunch. –can’t wait to return!
