Well it could very easily have been a 2 star review but actually the chef definitely knew his way around a steak. He almost got it cooked perfectly for me and as anyone who has been out with me when I order a steak will testify, I’m a little picky about my steaks. There was no blood and the steak was nice and red in the middle, unfortunately it was bordering on blue and I had to get him to give it another 30 seconds on each side. It was all in all just an ok meal, a little lacklustre with presentation and not the best quality of meat severely let the Eagle Tavern down. My wifes steak and kidney pie was quite nice but once again nothing special. For a Saturday night at 8pm it was pretty devoid of atmosphere, a few couples and 1 group didn’t really enliven the place much. There were no drinkers and given its position right on the A303 it seems to be an eating destination for a few locals and people like us who were passing and in need of sustenance on our way back to London. As there is not too much choice in the area its a good option for a bite while on the road but its not really a place to go out of your way for. That said they do have a very extensive menu including pizza, definitely more than your average pub grub so maybe we were just unlucky with what we chose.
