I love the carvery on a Sunday in the knockalodge! Plenty of choice and always served plenty of food! It can be quite busy so with small kids you might want to rethink!

I came here for dinner during the week and had a Bacon & Cheese Burger with curly fries. It was absolutely incredible. The bun was perfect, the beef was cooked beautifully and the fries definitely hit the spot. On top of that, it was only £7 as part of a midweek deal. The lower-star reviews here seem to comment on the hotel itself, but I can safely say the food is amazing. I’ll definitely be back here soon!

The brats are back to school, hurrah! Mrs M and I, on our days off, like to exploit our few hours of peace & quiet by treating ourselves to lunch. Today was Knockagh Lodge, a huge hotel nestled under the impressive Knockagh Monument on the north shore of Belfast Lough. There aren’t many more picturesque locations in the good town of Belfast. We were sitting in the bright conservatory which looks over the lough, and were quite contented. The menu… Well, the word ‘septuagenarian’ popped into my head as I was perusing it. What can I say? If this place had a signature dish, it’d be turkey & ham, mash and gravy. I find that to be fairly depressing, considering how gorgeous the restaurant and the surroundings are. Indeed, the table of four elderly ladies next to us were ordering said signature dish. We ended up plumping for an open ham sandwich(three pounds of ham and one slice of shop-bought wheaten bread, with some pickles out of a jar), and potato wedges with bacon & cheese(raw in the middle). Twenty quid and one glorious lunchtime wasted, I’d say. The beautiful location saves Knockagh Lodge from a one-star review.

The Knockagh Lodge, as the name suggests, is lodged in the hillside below the Knockagh on the Antrim Plateau. It has long been the ‘usual choice’ for Christmas parties and the like for workplaces and certain organisations(usually the Riding Club, Pony Club, and suchlike) They also host the odd wake and wedding reception for good measure, due to their ample space for function rooms, which are well equipped to cater for large parties. It has mainly been these type of functions, particularly around Christmastime, that I have had the majority of my recent experience of the Knockagh Lodge, and to be honest, the food hasn’t exactly been anything to write home about, but it does the job and we always seem to have a good night. The Knockagh Lodge now also includes a recently completed hotel, which is perfect for people to stay within easy access of Belfast, but out of the city in a peaceful setting.
