Zero Plus Fish Bar

Albany Fish Bar might have Roath sewn up and The Codfather takes the gong for best title, but Zero Plus is the pinnacle when it comes to Cardiff chippies. About 20 minutes brisk walk from the city centre, every bite is worth the journey and you wouldn’t complain had you walked twice as far: it’s that good. Indescribably fine chips, monstrous cod; even the breadcrumbed cardboard-​and-​sawdust taste you ordinarily experience biting into a fishcake is turned into a culinary delight here. One or two of the staff are a tad sullen and, on one occasion we witnessed, fudged an order then unwisely accused the customer of messing up the original order. But with fish and chips this good the manager would pretty much have to kick you out the door and halfway to Newport to ruin a trip to Zero Plus.
