The best Kebab’s in Cardiff! There is NO where that beats it after a night out. The boys always remember you(and this is quite embarrasing but also my order!?) and are very friendly. Fast and efficient which is just what you need at silly-o’clock in the morning!

When I order a kebab on one of those dark times when a kebab seems necessary, I only ask for two things. First, I want it to be large. I don’t do things by halves. If I’m going to eat greasy, ambiguous meat that could easily be the remnants of an unfortunately slow pigeon, I’m going to eat a LOT of it. And second, I want it to be hot. Few things are worse than picking at the cold meat of a kebab; there’s a sadness that goes with it that exceeds the usual sadness of a kebab. Eating a cold kebab is like eating processed depression. And, luckily for them, Venus hits the mark on both of these counts. The food is many, and the food is hot. I know it’s a pretty mediocre set of requirements, but you’d be surprised how many kebab shops don’t manage it… They also happen to be very nice lads there; they’ve got the studentville banter down pat. Sadly, they are merely average. There’s not a bad word to say about Venus, but, equally, there’s not a good word to say either. If you get food from here, the post-meal thought in your head will be «Well, I sure did just eat a kebab». And with Aladdin’s just down the road, that doesn’t quite cut it.

Everyone needs a local kebab house to pop to on your way home from a bar or a gig, and this is the one we frequent. Talk about friendly! The guys are lovely behind the counter, and the food is always well presented, with good size portions. It is always clean, and they have papers to read while you wait. The food isn’t mind-blowing, and the chips are frozen, but I’ve been to much worse kebab shops where you fear for your health! My personal preference in a kebab is plenty of salad — I’m assuming due to post beer dehydration — and they don’t skimp on the salad and it is always fresh. Doner meat and chips with sauces and loads of salad is always my preferred choice and it is really constant. Most importantly, however, is that I have never seen any trouble in there. Sometimes, as a woman at least, these late night places can be quite intimidating, but I’ve always felt quite happy in there. And they are soooooooo friendly…

There’s really nothing to differentiate this place from any other kebab shop. It’s clean appearance, friendly enough staff and kebabs is all that’s required after a night at the Crwys. It’s also well located near to Roy Jenkins Hall if your a student. It’s cheap fast food when you want it, but personally I don’t eat kebab unless I can really help it. If I have a choice I wouldn’t go there, but if I had to I’d order the doner kebab.

Not much can be said about Venus, the food is what you would expect from any kebab house and honestly there wasn’t anything that completely blew me away. I have visited Venus a couple of times(mainly because my friend loves it) but the guys who work there are really friendly and are always willing to customise your order(if memory serves I once saw someone order a Doner Kebab meat pizza) and what’s cool is that they always seem to have the tabloid papers at the tables so you can read while you wait for your food to be cooked. That said the only time when you’ll probably find yourself in Venus is when you’ve just fallen out of pub, but the food was made quickly, it was hot and the same price I would expect for just about any kebab house. What I will say is that if you find yourself in Venus you’ve probably had a good night out!

Meh. I’ve experienced better. That pretty much sums up how I feel about this place. It was an accidental discovery because we wanted to stop for food after seeing a friend safely back to her house after a night out. Having not visited any of the kebab shops/chip shops/actually quite gross, but what you want after a night out shops on this street, we just chose one at random. There was no queue, probably mostly because this road is not a particularly busy one for students to stumble down after nights out. It’s not like Wyverne Road. However, the food was pretty sub-par; it was piping hot because it had just been cooked. But was it cooked too long? Not enough? I’m not sure but I am a girl that knows her chips and I can tell you it wasn’t right.

Venus is by far the best kebab house in Cardiff, service from the Venus boys is alway fast, friendly and cheap. They have the full range of items you’d expect from a local kebab house including the Venus Special Kebab which I have yet to eat a full one in one sitting! Unfortunately they no longer do delivery, however this make each visit even more special as you feel you’ve deserved one after having to walk to the shop!
